It finally happened to me.
I did the seafoam through the PCV valve this weekend and really enjoyed the smoke show. Let it set for 5 min. and drove around the block until the smoke show ended. Changed the oil and put on a Wix.
All was going well and my 3 year old girl was having fun helping.
Then I decided check the air filter and pop the air hose/tubing just split open and smiled at me.
So what is the fix for this?
I searched but didn't really come up with much.
Just put sealant on it and hope for the best?
I know the hose is big $$$ so I am interested in what others have done to address this.
Thank you
Bill

Don't use silicone on that hose, I did that on my camry and it sucked the silicone into the throttle body and jammed it open.....not good.

Duct tape seems to work well for people though......

Same thing happened to me last week. Duct tape to the rescue.

I used a rubber type cement called Pliobond made by Goodyear. I let that set up overnight. Then I took some stainless bailing wire that I had laying around and went around the tube a couple of times before crossing over to the other side of the split and went around a couple of times and crossed over again. I repeated this step about 8 times crossing over as close to equal sections as I could. I followed this step with a liberal amount of duct tape and finished it off with a couple of wraps of some metalized high heat tape that I had kicking around from the wire loom repair. I noticed an immediate improvement in the idle - it dropped about 250 rpm. My intention was to call Dan the next day and order a replacement. That was last spring. HTH, Greg.

I was thinking about using muffler tape on the inside to get a better air seal. any thoughts?

I appreciate a trail fix, ingenuity, and frugality as much as anyone but I cannot understand a semi-permanent "duct tape & muffler tape" fix to this critical component to your engine.

The hose on there has worked well for 170,000 miles. Replace it with a new OEM hose from C-Dan and forget about it for another 170,000 miles.

You could always replace it with dryer ducting:hillbilly: :hillbilly:

Duct tape it until you can get a new one. That's what i did and it worked just find. Plus you will have that kentucky crome look!

I used electrical tape as a Temporary fix, new one should be here any day now. It was not big $$$.

Under $100. If you think duct tape will be a permanent fix, sell your Cruiser. It does work as a trail repair, or temp fix if you have to drive it to the dealer or wait for the UPS package from CDan. You're asking for trouble leaving it that way though. Leaks after the air filter can cost you your engine. Fixing one crack in a deteriorated rubber hose is inviting trouble, no matter how good the fix.

anyone used that silicone hose tape they sell ? It's supposed to be good up to 400 degrees or something. I bought a roll at the gunshow :bounce: and put it on a leaky garden hose. It's been holding like a champ!

How much ime and iffort and sealants and bailing wire and duct tape is worh $100 to you.
I am with -B- Dont waste your time, throw some duct tape on it until Dan can ship you the correct hose.

I was really hoping someone had a good solution such as using some inexpensive metal tubing but I quess the 10 year and all that heat is all one can expect from a rubber air intake hose. If its brittle there then its brittle everywhere. Calling Dan, again

Get a supercharger. The air intake hose I replaced last winter is now sitting on the shelf as it gets removed with the supercharger. Umm certainaly more fun than Duct Tape!

He can PM me if he is interested. It's just collecting dust. I eventually will place an ad in the for sale section.

I just got a warm, fuzzy feeling!
