I was pulling a distributor off my parts rig that has been sitting for ages and the distributor body is seized to the block. I was tapping on it and a piece of the slot that the hold down bolt goes through broke off. The idea was to send this one to Jim C. to have it recurved so I can just swap distributors on my 60.

Will that missing/broken piece cause any problems? I'm thinking that the hold down bolt doesn't see much force and it shouldn't be an issue, but wanted to make sure before I sent it off.

I'll get a picture tonight.

Thanks

Sounds like it is now a parts dizzy. If it backs out you have no oil pressure, then no engine. Is that a risk you are willing to take?

Pic? I would use it if that's all I had, but if I was sending one off to get spruced up, I would use another one.

That sounds like a problem that Jim can solve. Probably has plenty of parts distributors. Talk to him.

The previous post is probably the right answer but if it broke clean you can get it welded back on, i bet you could even do that with a spool gun. Or you could glue it to hold it in place, drill a hole through it and either pin it or thread the hole and put a set screw in there.

The piece is long gone. It flew off in the middle of tall grass/sand/gravel. I will hit up Jim, if I can get the thing off the block, and hope that he has a new one.

Here is a picture.
