Bridgestone or Toyos - same price

Then why wish for more testing? Also is Toyo's R&D not valid? They have a few baja wins under their belt as well.

Your quote: "Of course, off-road, you won’t find a better AT tire in terms of traction, sidewall strength, and proven racing durability. You can’t say that about a lot of the “AT” tires that compromises strength to get under a price point."

I simply asked for data. I didn't "deny durability strength" as you claim I did. I just asked for data to support "you won't find a better AT tire in terms of traction, sidewall strength, and proven racing durability." Some race wins could possibly count for the latter, what about the other 2? Traction and sidewall strength seem easy to quantify. Let alone evidence the other tires compromise strength to get under a price point.. that turns out isn't even a price point argument in the first place, as I pointed out above.

Waiting.

Oldie but good. :)

Do other tires mentioned so far have 3-ply sidewall? Certainly not the tires mentioned so far in this thread not named KO2.

I do like Goodyear Advanture AT…….but i have never trusted Goodyear (for no apparent reason). :D

Has anyone got the pep boys cooper house brand at tires? I've been wanting to try some on my ford, was apprehensive to put on the lc (went w ko2 from Costco).
I had run the PepBoys KO look alikes years back on my 80. They did the job for everything I put them up to and cheaper than the BFGs.

Cooper is not a Pep Boys house brand. It is now a brand in the Goodyear family. Very well respected overlanding brand especially in Australia and southern Africa. Every bit as well respected as BFG in those markets.

Well... seems the NHTSA considers some Cooper Tire Brand Names owned by Pep Boys. Here's a recall notice I received recently:

You received this email because you have requested to be notified by NHTSA if there is a safety recall regarding Tires.

Please click on the following NHTSA Recall ID links to view the recall information.

NHTSA Recall ID Number :21T002
Synopsis :Cooper Tire & Rubber Co. (Cooper Tire) is recalling certain Discoverer, Evolution, Courser, Deegan, Adventurer, Hercules, Back Country, Multi-Mile Wild Country and Big O brand tires. The tires may develop a bulge or separation in the sidewall. A sidewall separation may cause the tire to rapidly deflate, increasing the risk of a crash. Cooper Tire will notify owners, and dealers will replace affected tires, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin March 25, 2021. Owners may contact Cooper Tire customer service at 1-800-854-6288. Cooper Tire's number for this recall is 178. I am a fan of KO2's, I always have been. They have their shortcomings like anything else out there but IMHO (short of solid ice) they are the best all around true AT out there and still one of if not the best looking as well (obviously looks are subjective). A lot of these newer AT's are more of a Hybrid AT Lite and lean more towards an aggressive HT than a full on AT like the KO2. That might work for most who see 95-98% highway use but I found both the G2 and AT2 to suck for my needs (mud, rocks, and mesquite thorns). I have never been impressed with Falkens but just like SPC UCA's they too are widely liked and often suggested on this forum. I liked the one set of Coopers I ran on a truck a few years back but I bought them because of price and that's where they shine, unfortunately they just recalled over half a million tires last week.

The KO2s when released set the new standard and benchmark. Killed older designs like the G2 and AT2s.

The new playing field is a different animal and it's time for some KO3s.

I agree that the KO3 is overdue, hopefully we see one soon. That said, I still choose the KO2 over the newer stuff, save maybe the Ridge Grappler but that's more of a AT/MT Hybrid.

BFGoodrich Tires Radial All-Terrain milestones include:

1975 - BFGoodrich goes to Baja California, in Mexico, to test its all-terrain tires
1976 - BFGoodrich enters the SCORe Baja 1000 desert race to test its radial all-terrain technology; BFGoodrich Tires launches the first radial all-terrain tire (Radial All-Terrain T/A®)
1977 - BFGoodrich Tires claims its first SCORe Baja desert race class title at the Baja 500 and 1000, on the new Radial All-Terrain T/A®
1986 - Second-generation Radial All-Terrain T/A® released
1999 - Third-generation all-terrain (Radial All-Terrain T/A® KO) released
2015 - Fourth generation of all-terrain tire (Radial All-Terrain T/A® KO2) released.

Given it’s recent history, i doubt that we will be seeing KO3 anytime soon. We are still in the early years of KO2. :D Given that KO2 sales remain strong for both consumers and off-roaders, there is no pressure to replace KO2.

KO2 still remains in rare company for an agressively-tread AT with strong sidewall. A true all-terrain tire that can tackle any type of terrain with durability second to none.

I certainly don’t want BFG to mess around with the KO2 formula and make it wimpier off-road! As noted by TireRack comparison linked above, it’s on-road perfornance is pretty good for a tire of its type.

They must be too good. I'm sure Defenders will serve you better next time around.

Note: i do NOT think that KO2 is a tire for people who spend all their time on the road/highway. KO2 is truly an AT tire that is meant for on-road and off-road capability with compromises in both. KO2 seeming don’t do well on ice and wet performance not up to par with highway tires. Off-road, KO2 can’t compete against MTs. But overall, it is probably the only AT tire (other than maybe Goodyear Wrangler AT with kevlar) that provides good on-road manners and good off-road traction/strength...a true 50/50 AT tire.

I may go with Defender next time as my time off-road has decreased some...probably in stock size due to XL and low weight.

Well, actually, i rode in a LC with Defender recently………..rode well, but it had some tire/road noise….wasn’t as quiet as i expected…..maybe my expectations were set too high? Yeah, that ride kinda destroy my dream of getting Defender XL next time around.

Maybe when i get to 50-65k miles, there will be KO3 or maybe Michelin AT3?

I agree that the KO2 is a benchmark AT tire.

Geez, you guys crack me up. I love this candid back and forth over tires. I have the RGs and they are a pretty impressive tire but overkill for most of my use. The KO2 used to be my go to tire until I moved to TN. After experiencing heavy rain, they didn’t do very well. It was a bit sketchy on the backroads and floated more then I liked at hwy speeds when puddling was present. I decided to try the RG. The RG was much more planted and confident. Comparing them to the KO2 they weren’t any quieter that’s for sure. The KO2 seemed like a slightly better dry road tire(smoother and tad quieter). I never had issues with the KO2 over-landing in Colorado and Moab. Now, I’m in the hunt for the best comfort/quieter hwy/city tire. The Mich LTX seem like a good choice but not sure how they’d look in a 295/70/18 as they don’t offer a 285/70/18. Other option is Cooper AT3 XLT. If someone could confirm that these are quieter and more comfortable then RGs., I’d be all over them.
