So it has been mentioned in a previous thread that landcruiser breaks are interchangable. Is this true? I have a 87 BJ74 and need pads, shoes and wheel cylanders. Got a quote from 4 wheel close to $250 for all the parts, premium pads or not it seems pretty high. I would like to try elsewhere but not sure what I am looking for. If it is the same as one avalible here it should be easy to find parts anywhere. Ijust need a part number or what it is interchangable with. thanks alot. Also has anyone put disc's on the rear. How hard and what did you use to convert? thanks

same parts as the Domestic BJ70. Most parts stores will have them in stock. It shouldn't cost any more then $125 for the complete set of pads and shoes from what I remember. Most likely less. The wheel Cylinders I haven't had to replace yet so I'm not sure on the price. From what I remember, 4 wheel auto had a good price on quality new wheel cylinders.

I just priced all this stuff out at a local store for one of my rigs

Front Calipers $39 to $69 each depending on re-manufacturer
Rear shoes - $29 set
Front pads = $24 set
Rear cylinders = $15 each
New front Discs = $22 each.

These are the lowest prices. There are higher priced options for the hard parts and the wear items.

Seems like all this stuff has come down in price over the last few years. The pads are Raybestos. The others are various bulk parts companies. I have bought all these lower price parts and have been using them for 4 years on a daily driver with no issues.

The 70 series until 1995 have the same brakes as 60 series also.

Easiest way to put discs on the rear is to source a later model rear with the discs.
Im not sure what year most 70 series got rear discs but my 75 is the updated model and was the 1st in OZ.

A lot of the US 60 series owners use the 4Runner disc. Being a 60 it should be the same as doing the conversion to a 70.

thanks all, again. I found all the parts through local dealers and actully a mecanic friend got me a deal through his parts guy. $120CAD for pads, shoes and 2 wheel cylnders. WOO HOO almost $100 less than anywhere else. goes to show how much mark up there really is.
