last itme I did this was about twenty years ago and I don't remeber having this much trouble. I taking out the tranny and x-case in a 74 fj40. I have taken out the drive lines, drain oil, speed o cable and e brake cable, the four bolts holdening the tanny to the houseing. I can move it a little up and down and a little sideways but can't get it loose. I have a jack under it to take some of the weight off. Any help would be great just want to make sure I wasn't missing something.

Thanks

pry bar in between the trans and bell housing and slowly work it back

How about the shifter or linkage are they out the way ? try pushing the clutch in and out that sometimes works you can loosen up the clutch Pressure Plate bolts don't take them all the way out, If you take them out watch out when It comes loose it will come down like guillotine, most likely the pilot baring is keeping it tight... good luck

Thanks for the help. I was thinking about puting the bolts back in until I break it loose. Good Idea. Yes shifter is out of way.

I usually take a hammer and peck on the side of the tranny case as I wiggle it back and forth seems to help release the hold the pilot bearing has on the input shaft.

I've heard them hung up on the pilot bearing, maybe try a comealong pulling back on it???

Thanks to everyone. I got it out and the pilot bearing is still on the shaft. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't forgetting something and didn't want to break something:)
