hey guys,

just wondering if anyone has upgraded their 80 series brakes. Granted im use to a 3 thousand pound sports car with 12 in slotted and drilled rotors with 6 piston calipers, but jesus the stopping distance on these trucks with 285 tires is like 3 miles. I talked to david about this in santa fe and I dont believe there are any glazing issues on my current rotors and pads are new.. Suggestions?
thx

There are some write ups in the main 80 section. I haven't been over there in years but most were quite expensive. Brembo setups and similar.

New rotors, SS brake lines, fresh fluid, Motive bleed, new calipers, and a good set of pads; 80-series rear, 100-series (brand=EBC) on the front will help but it won't stop like your poorch.

I've had great luck with these Brembos for $38/each

and these PBR ceramic pads from BMA parts. Free shipping >$50.

The 100 series pads work ok but not as good as the PBR pads IMHO. The 100 series pads do last a long time though.

This combo stops my 7,000# fat pig really well. I've known to lock up the tires only once on dry pavement and that ain't an easy feat! :hillbilly:

very nice thank you! Do the ceramic brakes take time to warm up before they really start working?

i put these pads on my 80 with 285's. i would say they bite as hard as my brembos on my sti. you can feel the weight of the rig in stopping distance but i can absolutley lock up the wheels on the 80 with them.

as for "heat", well our pigs do that in like 4' :hillbilly: they don't have the same warm up that the hawk HPS pads do on my sti, those i really notice getting some heat into, and they aren't even race pads, yet...

but really those ceramic pads were a significant stopping upgrade to the 80 after 285's. they put a lot of dust on my front wheels, but what can you do. they might end up chewing rotors but gd all 4 rotors for the 80 are less than just the rears of the sti (not talking about double that for the fronts), let alone your experience with porch'eas.

Yeah, what he said.
