Ok, I got my Cruiser running mostly, now I need to be able to stop it.. I need help with breaks. Right now all 4 wheels are drum breaks, however I know nothing of the condition of them, I assume that they all need attention.
I do have a Straight axle from a 70 something Toyota pickup with disc brakes.

Will a stock Brake Master Cylinder work for either set up?

Is it even a good idea to put discs on the front and leave the back as Drum breaks?

What would you end up doin?

If this is for the 1968 and it has the stock MC you will need a new one. That would have been a single circuit system If you are doing discs you need a disc MC and really should do a dual circuit anyway for safety. Most people convert to disc upfront and keep the drums in the rear. I am just finishing up putting in 1977 fj40 axles in mine, disc up front drums in the rear. I used a 1998 geo metro MC and booster. Most of the braking is done by the front wheels so unless you are rock crawling disc in the rear seems unnecessary to me others will disagree, and with the little wear rear brakes get you will not have to adjust them that often.

Disc in front and drum in rear should be more than sufficient for every day driving and moderate to regular trail riding. I mean, they still build brand new cars to this day with that same set up. Can't be all that bad.

I am going with the Geo master, booster, and proportioning valve this weekend. I will let you know how it turns out. By the way, Geo metro and chevy Metro are the same cars and have identical breaking systems. If you buy a setup from any metro from 95-2000, thy are all the same parts. Just make sure you learn how to make an attachment for the firewall spacer.
