I need to replace the front rubber brake hoses running from the axle to the calipers (stock front disc) on my '82 FJ40. The Toyota dealer wanted $35 per hose for OEM, so I ended up ordering some from a parts store for less than half of that cost. When I got them home and ready to replace the old ones, I saw that the new ones were about 1.75" shorter than the current ones on the truck, and look to be a really tight fit, and appear to not leave much play for wheel movement and steering.

Current hoses: 9" including connections (6" of exposed rubber hose)

Aftermarket hoses (Centric Parts # 150.44104): 7.25" including connections (4" of exposed rubber hose)

So, my question is, what should be the measurement of the brake lines length going from the axle to the calipers on a late model 40?

Thanks in advance for everyone's help.

Anyone have any pics of the front disc assembly with the brake hose running from the caliper/dust shield? Just trying to see if the shorter aftermarket hose will have enough play to handle the steering flex.

Thanks.

We stock 11" long hoses that we sell for backing plate removal, they route from the axle housing directly to the calipers. We did make a set for a customer the other day that were 9" long going from axle housing to backing plate (SS braided, $28 each).

Great, thanks Jim. I figured these aftermarket 7.25" hoses would be too short just by looking at them, but I wanted to double check with the experts on here. It looked like the 9" hoses would be the correct length, just wanted to confirm. I don't even know why I bother anymore with some of the generic parts stores for Cruiser specific parts. I guess that is all part of the learning process.

Thanks again, I appreciate it.
