Absolutely incredible.

Brakes were beginning to feel "scary". Did some searching and decided to go with 100 pads (front only). Scuffed the rotors with a wire wheel:D, installed the pads, then actually took the time to "bed in" the pads.

I am shocked at the performance difference. Absolutely the best/cheapest mod I've ever done to this truck. The tires will actually "talk" to you when braking hard now.

Note: The old 80 pads were not OEM but the 100's are.

I just did this last weekend with similar results. Every advantage that I can gain over the 315s is worth the extra money (my old pads had only 2K miles when pulled) in my opinion.
 
Now that I've gotten FZJ80 calipers i'm going to be doing this one shortly also. :hmm:

I have a 1997 80 series. Can I just change out the pads with 100 series pads??? Without modifying anything??
 
You will need new rotors
 
i think you just replace the pads. take out the anti-squeal shims or sand down the 100's pad a little thinner to fit into the caliper

Yes, just slide them in, didn't have to sand them or anything. Maybe with brand new rotors you have to sand them, otherwise no.
 

I believe the 100 pads are larger and don't ride in the same spot on the rotor so the wear line will be in the middle of the 100 pads.

My OEM 80 pads stop this thing on a dime ok not litteraly but, I bairly have to touch the brakes and it slows way better than I expected from all the comments on here. It stops way easier than my LS400

Looking to upgrade to 100 series pads and looking to further up-grade, if they are considered an up-grade, to either Hawk or EBC Green Stuff pads. Maybe the type of brake pads used should be a survey???

If your truck is setup with well maintained brakes, a pure OEM setup will stop you just fine. In fact there's a post that compares stock 80's to other vehicles, and the 80 does just as well as the 100 series, 200 series, FJC, and is even comparable to sedans.

The 100 series pads is an upgrade, but more so because their larger surface area means they can take more abuse (less heat fade) and they last longer.

Many people rant and rave about how awesome DBA/Hawk/EBC/etc are, but most people are comparing a tired and worn out braking system to a refreshed braking system. Not to many people put new OEM calipers/rotors/pads on, then compare them to new aftermarket calipers/rotors/pads, so it's not an apples to apples comparison.

The :princess: truck will quite literally throw you through the windshield, something it did not do before I redid the brakes on it. I've had to panic stop on a very steep downgrade while towing a 3k boat in my truck....I'd take my truck over my folks F150 hands down any day for that situation.


All that being said, not sure how thick the DBA rotors are. If they're thicker than OEM, you will need to sand the 100 series pads thinner to make them fit.

I'd like to do the same thing with my '90.
 
X2 what Ebag333 said. After 175K, I replaced all four calipers, rotors, brake lines, pads, etc... Everything is OEM (100 series pads, longer brake lines from various Toyota vehicles). Even with 35's, and armor, stabbing the brakes is like throwing an anchor out the back door.
 
I have to do this mod. I always felt that the brakes were the achillies heel for this truck. I think their terrible. And I say tthat after just having my rotors cut with new 80 series pads....Terrible...no feel. Feel like I have wood blocks as brakes.

Did you rebuild the calipers or replace them with new/reman?

Too many people turn the rotors and slap on new pads, then wonder why their braking sucks, never addressing the primary problem of sticking caliper pistons.
 
when you put the new pads on is it time to put new rotors on? or machined or what?

I changed my front pads this afternoon to new OEM '100 pads'... After the install, I drove off to properly bed the pads, and the first couple of stops were pretty much like before the pad change (but wait, as they say on TV)... then the magic kicked in! My experience is exactly the same as yours, akarilo... I should have done this long ago, it actually stops!

By the way, both outboard pads thet I removed were worn noticably more than the inboard pads.

Also, I was able to install the little shim on the outboard position but not inboard.

That would indicate your pistons are sticking.
