A friend acquired a 1980 FJ40 that had a Frankenstein FJ70 or 80 swap- can't really tell what. After an inordinate amount of work to cut all the booty fab front suspension off and redo it, he is left with a puzzling dilemma- the rear brake drums that were on it are too small and nothing I've found will work. I think the axle may have been cut down, but there are so many boogers from things cut off and re-welded I can't be sure. I also can't find anything identifiable to help. They clearly are full size (60/70/80) and the pads are marked NBK LN508-FF, but the 60 series drums I got (Raybestos 9379R) didn't solve it, nor did the lFZJ80 (Raybestos 9484R). Any ideas would be greatly appreciated...

Measure the INSIDE of the drum, and the width of the brake area on the wall of the drum. Then measure the backset from the INSIDE face of the drum to the tip of the flange of the drum.

Check Rockauto or local FLAPS to verify a drum that will fit.

Measuring the OUTSIDE of a drum achieves nothing.
