SILVER Star
The used rear brake drums for my '86 FJ60 project vehicle are low-mileage and well within OEM specs, so I plan on reusing them. I soaked the drums in Evapo-Rust for several days quite few months ago and temporarily reinstalled them on the rear axle. I pulled one off yesterday and the inner surfaces of the drum are still clean as a whistle, but there are remnants of old paint and some surface rust on the exterior surfaces. After cleaning up the exterior surfaces I was thinking of coating the outside with EZ-Slide and "baking" them under a heat lamp, the same coating process I used on the 3FE exhaust manifolds:
Manifold Makeover - EZ-Slide Coating Approach
The EZ-Slide is supposed to be very resistant to oils, greases, road salt, etc. so I thought I'd use it on the drums. I'll post some photos later today after I have one of the drums cleaned and coated.
