Hi,

As part of my frame off restoration I observed the following pitting corrosion on my brake cylinder. The width is approx 10mm and covers the end area where the rubber seal is supposed to keep the brake fluid on the inside. I also observed a tiny leak. This is the area where moisture/water is mixed with the brake fluid, it upconcentrates over time and since the previous owner did not care to change the brake fluid often, I now have pitting corrosion. I assess that the depth of the corrosion is 1/10 mm and it feels quite rough to the touch.

Can such a cylinder be repaired or do I need a new one? This is the original cylinder being 35 years old. I fear if I just replace the rubber, it will be worn quite fast due to the rough surface at the end postion. I dont know if I can hone 2 times 1/10mm in full depth and still have a new rubber seal tight (because the bore is larger now).

What do you suggest?
