Finally after months of dealing with the bed liner we have the 60 ready for primer. We were going to start body work before primer however the 60 was rusting days later after wire wheeling sitting in an A/C warehouse. So we sprayed a layer of epoxy primer so we don't have to worry about it rusting. Now we are getting started on body work. Few rust spots we need to take care of.

That is going to be awesome when you finish it. Best of luck with your restoration. Keep posting your progress.

Current status on my FJ60. Removing and patching up rust spots. One major spot on the front passenger quarter panel, rear driver quarter panel and small spots around the truck. Then there's the roof on the back half of the truck that has had pieces of sheet metal tacked into place and filled in with fiber glass. Need to remove the fiber glass to get a better look at the patch that was done and decide what to do.

Liquid nitrogen works really good at removing the factory asphalt sound deadened. It might work with bed liner too. Could always get a small thermos of it and try a test area. If it works you can rent the big tank and gun and go to town.

Started the body work on the front passenger quarter panel. There was this weird rust out line of something that was placed on the fender but there are no bolt holes or signs on how it was mounted. This was my first patch I have done. To be honest I don't think it came out that great but it was my first time.

It’s a decent repair that you’ve done, but with bolt off parts - doors, fenders, etc. It’s probably easier and less work down the road to replace it with a decent used part.

Yeah I have started to apply bondo to that area and depending how it looks after painting I might replace the fender.

You can get it perfect if you take your time, but at a minimum you should still pull the fender off and prep and treat the back side of the repair. Otherwise you’ll see rust return.

I would also heavily grease the backside of your welded rust repair with axle grease, as water thrown up by the tire will hammer those welds and cause rust. Anything entombed in 1/4" of axle grease will not rust.

Its the faith that we all have in these trucks that continues to propagate more faith and commitment. Yeah this is a great save. So, with that said, when are you going to lift the body off the frame? (Do it, do it, do it)

I was really close to doing it but I really want to drive it! However that's definitely something that will done in the future. Also my buddy who has been a big help is going to be traveling for a months soon. If not done before that it could delay the project to March or April. Cant wait that long.

So its has been a while since I have updated here about my 60 so here it is. Its pretty much complete now just doing regular maintenance. I have been dailying it all this year and finally have that project I wanted that I could drive and work on as things need to be replace or worked on. Since I have been driving it I have replaced the clutch master and slave cylinders, brake booster, radiator hoses, replaced the front shackles with longer anti inversion shackles and about to install a 4 degree shim once my ubolts get in. It started leaking oil from the rear main seal I believe so will be dropping the transmission soon and at the same time new clutch kit will be going in.
