My #2 (in the picture) brake light (red middle section) is out. How do I know what exact replacement (filament/volt) bulb I need? Thanks.

Happy '23.

Pull the bulb out, the bulb number will be clearly visible & any parts store will have the replacement.

I was thinking an 1157??

1157 is a dual filament. Stop, turn, park. He should use an 1157. Stop, park. I was incorrect b4.

Meaning an 1156 is a single filament bulb.
You need an 1157 dual filament bulb. 1 filament for brake and the other for the parking light.

Is it worth switching the brake lights to LED? And 12 vs 24 voltage?

SOR 1157s

LED
Not really. The rear lights on a fj40 live a hard life of vibration dirt and moisture. You can buy 8-10 1157's and just toss them in the glove box and with a phillips head screw driver change them in a few mins as needed.

are these 12V? Thx for feedback.

the 1157 has 2 knubs underneath and the 1156 has 1 knub
the 1157 should only go in 1 way as the posts on the side are off set

any auto parts store will have a bin full of these bulbs

This thread begs the question: How many people does it take to change a light bulb? 😊😊😊
