I'm always interested to know what others are packing for meals on trips. Backpacking and bicycle touring require tons of calories, but everything needs to be shelf stable and light. Living out of the back of a Subaru when I was doing a lot of rock climbing in college, the priority was low cost to offset my beer budget. Road trips with my wife tend to be sandwiches with nice bread, cheese, and sliced meats for lunches, breakfast and dinner tend to be at places she finds along the route. Menu planning is probably the next step of planning for my Magruder Corridor trip this year.
Having, two fridge/freezers, two ovens, two stoves, a Scottle, a BBQ and a Yetti full of beer will give us the ability to have a pretty posh menu!
With the ability to transport and prepare quality meals for a week not only adds to the epic scenery but also helps keep the crew 'regular'. We have found that being able to keep this schedule for each crew member is just as important as meal schedule.
Lots of fruits and vegetables!
