so ive got 5000 to spend on my 88 fj. the bonus is from work and it needs to go to my vehicle for certain reasons. the trucks got 360000 miles on it and it needs some work. I know this vehicle has its own issues and issues aren't universal, but what would be a smart thing to have done to the truck to breathe the most life back into it? I currently drive it around town and to the store and its great. I was thinking about getting the engine rebuilt but maybe it doesn't need it, maybe I get just get a major tune up. im pretty good with my hands and projects but I don't have a lot of time to get to stuff. any ideas or past experiences would be great. thanks in advance. JC

Take it to a reputable repair shop (preferably Toyota specialist), spend about $100 (or whatever the cost), so they can do a full evaluation on it and them tell you what it needs.
They should be able to do everything from compression test, fluids, lights, brakes, diff's, trans, etc. This will tell you where best to spend your hard earned bonus.
We have a mechanic that we've taken every used vehicle we've purchased for them to do a once-over and tell us what the status was, e.g. is it a keeper or not.
