I'm replacing the body mounts on my '77 and am wondering if someone knows what kind of wood Mr Toyoda used for the running board cushions.

I have never heard of Toyota using Wood as a body mount. I could be wrong but does not make common sense.

If yours are actually wood then they are something cobbled together by a prior owner.

Rubber trees have any wood in/on them?

I would lean towards a North American hardwood like Oak or Ash vs your typical big box store building lumber products. A good hardwood can tolerate some moisture and should provide many years of reliable service. It may be a little creaky, but that’s the sound of quality. If you’re outside of NA, teak would also work really well.
