Called Holley and they said debris can get lodged in between the LCD screen and the housing causing the LCD to spazz out. They sent me a new LCD screen and it fired right up.
Seriously? For an offroad rig? I think Holly needs to have a review of their statement of work for these LCDs. Or they need to add a disclaimer that these units are only for mall runners and Saturday morning coffee club members. 🤷‍♂️

Yep I did some digging and seems like this is a common issue on the Holley forums. What’s odd to me is it seems Holley is aware of this issue on their digital dashes because they have a gasket that goes in between the LCD screen and the housing. Not sure why they didn’t consider this for the 3.5” touchscreen. Here’s a disassembled LCD screen photo I found that shows what I’m talking about. Look at the dirt that collects around the interior housing.

Started mock-up of the swb 70 series parking brake cable. Stock cable length should work. Building a raised plate to save as much original floor material as possible and to avoid the floor rib. Will be bolted to a reinforcement plate on the underside of the tub.

Good work Liam! I think you should consider flipping the the cable bracket on the diff cover over for better alignment of the cable left to right.

Good eye! I was modeling it after a rear fj60 axle I had laying around. Seems the equalizer axle bracket is at a higher angle on the 70 series. Will get that swapped around.

Drank 4 cups of coffee this morning reading though this completely great and inspirational build thread. Incredible work and what a great cruiser.

Thanks Woods. Like all cruisers, this has been a never ending project. I’m certainly no expert, just a 19 year old kid trying to learn and do his best. Took the help of many good cruiser folks and my family to get this rig where it is today. I appreciate the kind words.

Wrapped up the 8274 rebuild last night. Took longer than expected cause I found out my Amazon motor was chinesium and had to wait on another from 4wheel parts. Turned out great. Love working on these winches, overbuilt, yet so simple.

Here’s the wiring for the warn contactor. Important to note that for the controller cover white is run to the + lug on the contactor. Black/Green are run to the 3rd and 1st spade terminals for winch in/out. Middle spade runs to ground on the underside of the motor.

Synthetic line and hook should arrive in a few days. Shiniest thing on the whole truck now :grinpimp:

Winch looks great! Now you have to put it to good use - trail recovery, clearing fallen logs off road, pulling stumps, pulling other stuck vehicles out of ditches. Done them all more than a few times.

Took an 80 mile trip out to pick up some goodies from @joekatana . 40 didn’t skip a beat. Kept up with my dad’s 5.7

Joe’s place is like cruiser heaven. Always enjoy seeing what he has going on:

Here’s Joe’s 70 series crawler. It’s got all the goods: lockers, 1HDT, 70 series Aisan winch, hydro assist, etc.

Joe also had this Toyota boat. It’s got a 1UZ engine. Pretty cool, didn’t know Toyota made boats.

@4Cruisers, I would really appreciate you sharing your wisdom on this with @SipLife at SAS. Perhaps some real world illustration.

Thanks John, that’s the plan. Thinking I’ll break it in hauling that s10 body off the frame I have in the backyard.

Good plans. If I had a strong 327 in an FJ40 when I was 16 I probably woulndt be writing this now
Turbo diesel will feel a lot more “land cruiser-y”

That being said you should have a V8-powered cruiser at some point in life :)
This came true @cruisermatt 😁

It was good seeing you guys again and I was definitely impressed by your FJ40 , that is a sweet cruiser !

Couldn’t seem to find a landcruiser steering stabilizer that had the dimensions I needed. Found out a K5 Blazer Monroe stabilizer has the perfect dimensions. I believe Monroe is the same company that produces stabilizers for OME. Re-adjusted my toe in/out as well.

The gasket on my rear reverse light had deteriorated so I created another one out of some 2mm closed cell foam. Keeps the lens from rattling around now.

My door stop brackets were in rough shape. The ds one fell off and the ps was hanging by a thread. Fabbed up one for the ds and welded both sides up. Iron hands are awesome for small stuff like this.

A touch of filler and sanding work before paint in Toyota Capri Blue. Paint seems to be off, not sure if the color is wrong or if the paint is just faded? Seems like a wrong color shade entirely to me. Thinking my rig could be Horizontal Blue? Any thoughts on this?
