I think the manual trans 2LTE prado and surfs had a two piece flywheel that is known to fail. Does the 1KZTE still use a two piece flywheel? Maybe it's broken?

OK - so it appears the flywheel has failed - it is dual mass / two-piece. Anyone know of a source for the 1KZTE dual mass flywheel?
I did a quick search for the original Toyota part number 1345067011 and didn't find anything that jumped out.

I'd be looking at converting to a single mass solid flywheel, it's a simpler, more reliable system and likely much cheaper. It looks like European and Australian market 90-series Prado's came with the 1KZ-TE and a solid flywheel, and probably some Hilux Surfs too.

Yup, do this ^^^.

Just be sure you have all the right part numbers for the proper conversion parts before laying out cash. Might be worth getting numbers from someone who's actually done it in the same vehicle before.

This seems like a reasonable price:

I found this one, but it is out of stock. Maybe preferred because it's a Toyota flywheel, bearing, bolts, and and Aisin clutch kit.
FLYWHEEL CONVERSION KIT

Need to dig to see if I can figure out individual part numbers. Found the flywheel, but having trouble identifying the Aisin clutch kit.

I ordered the flywheel conversion kit from Milner Offroad, and it is installed. Flywheel, clutch, and pressure plate manufactured by Exedy. A couple of days in and all seems good. I had read where often there can be much more noise with the single mass flywheel and spring style clutch vs the dual mass flywheel and solid clutch disc. But I haven't really heard anything odd. The only difference I can tell is there is more of a resonant vibration when shifting to 3rd if RPMs are very low.

Nice work! To bad I wasn't still out there or I would have helped with the install! Happy holidays brother!

Awesome man! I almost feel a part of this having diagnosed the problem correctly and suggested the kit you bought, lol. I'm glad to hear it all worked out and it's back on the road. Those are some quality looking parts and I don't think will let you down!

Hey what wheel / Tire size combo are you running?
The wheels were on it when I got it, and I haven't really dug to identify them. Maybe someone knows how to decipher the markings on the rim.
Tires are Falken Wildpeak A/T AT3W, 32X11.50R15LT.
I'm not that fond of the wheels, and one of my son's buddies wants them for a 1987 4Runner build. He may get them if I see something that catches my eye.

Thread isn't updated much but I just came across these old pictures I took of it, don't think I've ever posted them anywhere soooooo here they are. It looks quite a bit different now, maybe my dad will chime in and send some current pics of the rig. Enjoy!

Hey, where did you find torque specs for the flywheel etc? Struggling to find them myself

TIA

I didn't have the shop or garage to remove the transmission, so a local transmission shop did that work. I had them return all parts removed or not installed. I'll try to remember to check that box tonight to see if the spacer is in the box.

Ordered the clutch kit from Milner after coming here.

Thanks @Shyrock.
