Great looking truck, man. Love that color!

That’s super cool the EFI is working out so well and you’re driving the hell out of it. Makes me think about adding it to my ‘87. Would need an H55 to go with it though...

Cheers!

My truck runs the same RPM with the stock 4 speed, 3.70 gears and 33’s as my friend with H55, 4.10 gears and 33’s.

I can’t justify the expense.

Do it!

Hmmm, that’s interesting and good to know. Since my wife is the primary driver of this truck I don’t think she’d let me go taller than 31’s though. She’s 5’1 and hates getting in my lifted rig with 33’s.

Got a few more things planned for the ‘84 before I would leap into this but it looks like a great option for improving driveability.

Yeah the tires help with the OD for sure. If I had a 85 or later set up for H55 I would have done it just for the lower first gear.

Too much hassle for my 84

Got the 60 back from roof paint. He dug out all the goop I used to seal the rack and strip holes and just stuck a rivet in them.

Paint looks awesome.

Started in on the FrontRunner install this morning.

All went smooth, I’ve had my hands on about 10 of these rack installs so I’m pretty good at it.

Still took me about 4 hours to get it all up on the truck.

One of the greatest things about FrontRunner is that it ships free. One of the scariest is all the pieces.

Once you lay it out it makes sense. Don’t attempt without an electric ratchet or drill with 5mm Allen head.

Sawhorses are real nice too. The 60 specific directions were not on line or in box so if you get one the two longer legs go to the front.

I spread mine even. One behind the front and rear and one in the center

I have always liked the looks of the rails but the front ones will get in the way of my AutoHome tent so I did sides only.

I covered this in my AutoHome Columbus thread in Camping but the bottom line in the rear latch goes down on the tent and if you want it flat on the rack something has to give. This is my fix. The rack loses no strength

I managed to get it installed alone without scratching anything

I added some rubber trim to the rail legs and clamps. It’s just auto parts stuff.

I like it. I thought I wouldn’t because of my love affair with my ARB but I do

I took it to town and made a 20 mile loop and there is no wind noise. Very pleased. Always use the Air Dam they provide. It will howl without.

That was the fun part of the day.

I’ve got 2 really s***ty projects for the 60 in the que

Parking brake rebuild and replacing The rusty ass c channel on the frame.

Both I have been putting off for more fun projects.

I dove into the frozen bell cranks first.

Turns out there is not much that can go
Bad with a bell crank. That was wasted money. The aluminum pictured above was completely corroded and nothing was moving.

The parking brake on my 60 has been frozen for a couple of years. I replaced the cable and rebuilt the rear brakes last summer but still nothing

There was no way no amount of external work that would free it up. I shot penetrating fluid in there and parked the bell crank when I did the other work but nothing worked

I had to hammer the bell crank out with the aluminum in a vice

I tore it down and cleaned it with wire wheel. Packed it full of grease (some say this is a bad idea) and put it all back together.

One side took me about an hour because I was flying blind. I’ll be able to knock the other side out tomorrow in 1/2 that time

What made you get away from the arb?

Also, thank you for the Fuji carb suggestion from city racer, he hooked me up.

Dude Nolan I am going to have to pick your brain on the bell crank rebuild. Mine is doing the exact same thing and I need to get at it. Been putting it off for awhile now.

What made you get away from the arb?

Now that I have the EFI I want to make the 60 the primary camping rig so I purchased a hard shell roof top rent for it.

The tent, even being a small, would not fit inside the ARB but above it so I had to play musical roof racks.

Pig rack to Patina

60 rack to Pig

New rack for 60

Here is the info on the tent

Turns out if you have an E clip handy to reinstall the pin and a wire wheel on a bench grinder, you have everything you need. I could have reused my Springs and rubber boots.

Just did side 2. Took a few more pictures.

Parking brake works beautifully now.

Checked all the suspension bolts while I was back there. Everything is looking good.

Great post man, good to see this info out there for reference. Does Kurt send pistachio nuts with all his orders?

Sadly I used an on line company that ends in .net and nothing in the $100 kit worked but the boots and springs.

That said there was nothing that needed replacing. Just a good cleaning was all. I had to beat the thing apart.

I started in on my C channel replacement and quit when I could not get the spare tire carrier bolts out.

I’m going to keep on trucking. The main frame is good. I’ll fix it when I fix the area around the spring hangers and I have access to a torch or plasma cutter.

An air hammer was my close friend when I took those c-channels out. PITA job but it’s nice to see all the rust juts disappear
