My factory wood trim was looking a little worn.

Blisters were forming in the finish and the edges were starting to lift.

The truck really didn't fit its luxury heritage without it, so aftermarket wood was in order. Time to update the look [ -flame suit on- ]

I'm very happy with the results! :D
My girlfriend claims I'm just trying to make it more like her GX 470.

looks nice, why did you go with the lighter color wood? Just try something different?

All you need now is the wood steering wheel! hehe

Definately different....

But in my opinion..doesnt look like wood anymore. It almost looks like just yellow stickers.

how much $ did that set you back? I kinda think it looks cool. Nice job.

I need to do the same (but darker), what brand, where from, and what do you think of the quality?

Ditto.

I've seen a kit on eBay that looks like it might be decent, but who knows?

or...

anyone make anodized brushed aluminum...that might be sweet...

Texus, for some reason i'm thinking someone has put that in. Not sure if it's a full kit for all the trim, or just a piece. Maybe someone will post up.

Exactly. I looked at eight different samples and liked the lighter wood the best. If I were to do it again, I might try something with a more caramel color.

The pictures don't quite do it justice. The wood is a birdseye maple and looks very nice in person. You can actually see much more wood grain than with the factory pieces. To the eye it is more blonde than yellow.

About $200 from www.wooddashexperts.com. They have synthetic woods, real woods as well as carbon fiber, colored plastic, and various metals. Lifetime Warranty!

The quality of the wood and the finish is excellent. The patterns are slightly different than the factory pieces and therefore fit is slightly different. The only fit problem I had was around the JDM cup holder. That particular hole in the new trim wasn't quite wide enough for the cup holder to open/close. I used a small e-xacto knife and trimmed about 1/16 of an inch off. No problems now.

Overall I am very happy with the results and will let you know how the finish holds up to abuse.

Thanks for all the feedback!

Is that the plastic or real wood?

This is the Real Platinum Burl. Be aware that only the flat kits are available in real wood. The molded kits all use synthetic wood. You can order four samples for $5 to see the real color/finish. The samples are an oval about 1 inch by 2 inches.

I went with this company and the results were spectacular. You did better on price. I went with genuine wood and not synthetic and couldn't be happier. The finish far exceeds the image that is displayed. Walnut worked for me. The company mailed swatches before I made a decision and the finished product far exceeded my expectations. I am not a bling bling type but what I did in my opinion was very necessary.

Your dash looks great as well.

Boyd,

Looking good!

Now all you need is a wood AT shifter and transfer-case knobs like these from Toyota (I guess no AT shifter as it's on the "wrong side" ;p ).

Nice work!

[edit] Just found a pic with the part number on it, just in case this was not available in the US and that you wanted to try your local dealer or Cdan.

The stock stuff looks molded, and I think it's real wood, is something like that available? I'd rather have a good synthetic than flat wood.

For the 80 series there is little difference between the flat and molded kits. The factory wood is real wood and is a flat kit.

The real wood is very flexible and does curve to the contours of the piece it is attached to. A good example of a molded application is the window switches: the factory flat kit adheres to the top of the switch surround, a more modern molded vehicle would have the entire surround "molded" out of wood instead of plastic (like the Tundra). This was not the case with the 80.

The flat kit I installed matched the factory in form almost piece for piece (aftermarket actually includes more pieces than stock).

The main difference between the molded and flat kits is the trim around the shifter. The factory and flat kits use 2 pieces ( 1 horizontal, 1 vertical) while the molded kit uses 1 curved piece.

On a more modern vehicle's dash (more contours) the molded might be a better option; but for the 80, I chose real wood over the fake stuff.

The synthetic wood samples I saw were fairly realistic in appearance and most people would not know the difference.

Mot, what color woods are available from the factory? That A/T shifter looks a little too cherry, but the TC knob looks close. Maybe it's just the picture.

I "believe" only one color of wood was available. Not seeing the AT shifter in person, it's hard to tell how well it matches (I imagine pretty well).

You'd have to be pretty hard up to get the transfer case knob because it's $$.

wooddashexperts, real medium burl wood, $216, I like it, I just ordered it. Thanks!
