Dealer keys I got last year were the same shape as the original but didn't say Toyota. They were able to cut mine with the VIN ('89 FJ62), but they couldn't look up my '88 pickup, saying it was hit or miss for '80s vehicles. But, I still have the keyring for the truck with the code (guess I am cool too). Also, it was pretty pricey to cut using the VIN, something like $12.

Why yes, yes you are :D

How come you didn't use that instead of the VIN?

My local dealer (small town) had one factory key blank for a 60 left; it had been on their shelf forever so they copied my one existing key and gave it to me for free. Has the black plastic on it and says TOYOTA and everything.

Sorry, that was confusing... I had the keychain/code for my '88 pickup, not my '89 cruiser so I used the VIN for the cruiser. The parts guy looked up my pickup to see if it was in the key system (he was curious), it was not.

That makes sense now :)

Its like a master key!

My '88 pickup and '89 cruiser keys mentioned above will work in either truck with a little bit of massaging. Then, after one use with the "wrong" key, it works easily and the "correct" key takes some effort. My wife only carries a pickup key, so I can tell when she drives the cruiser b/c the "correct" key is difficult the first time it is used again.

I can code cut you a key off the code on the pass door lock if it has not been re-keyed. Two years ago I could still get the metal and plastic head key. I will check on my price on keys and let you guys know how much I can make New, un-warn out keys for. Ball park, I will have to add $15 plus the cost of the keys. No additional for the extra keys just the cost of the blank. If you find a dealer that only charges $12 for a vin cut key go for it. My local dealership charges around $90.

That sounds like a fair deal.

I still can not find a place for spare keys! The dealership didn't has any. Should I go to a hardware store?

my dealership didn't have any in stock so ordered them. can't yours do the same???

Mine said they were too outdated, so they couldn't order them
Im also looking for an original blank if anybody here has them, that would be awesome
Anything besides a bland spare key would be awesome!

I got the original OEM Toyota blanks from SOR. Got the cylinder number from the PS cylinder as stated already. Got all new keys made and no issues.

could yoy send me a link to SOR, that would be awesome!

it was only two months ago that my local dealership ordered the keys for me. sounds to me like the guy in the parts department at your local dealership is lazy.

Here in CA you can get, from the dealer, the key pictured on pg 1 and for few more dollars you can get the one that has TOYOTA molded "in". My original key has "raised" letters and that one is NLA.

Stupid lazy parts guy. Go back and ask to speak with the manager and tell them you want to order the factory key. They are available.
