Has anyone ever installed military blackout lights into their ARB bumper? I'm thinking about installing front blackout lights (2" X 1") up front then some add some to the rear once i do a rear bumper.

Looks like just a light with a cover to limit how far the beam throws (probably pretty short).

Shouldn't be terribly difficult to fab up.

i've ordered some of these, the intent is to recess them into the bumper so they will sit flush. I figure once they get here i'll be able to get a good look at the bulb and replace them with some low draw LED's. Run them to a seperate switch in the dash. Since blackout lights provide little to none projected illumination - more of an ambient effect - i can prolly leave them on at night without worrying about battery drain.

And you'd want to leave your lights on all night because........?..............

lights would be left on all night in situations where i'm out camping where there may be a chance of vehicle traffic when its still dark, i have experienced in the past where yahoos not thinking have plowed into vehicles parked. Pismo Dunes is a prime example. Also i really hate smacking my knees on big bumpers at night.

Yeah, I hear you. I've camped in desert arryos worrying about the same. My solution was to tie a chem stick onto something in the middle of the trail about 50 feet in both directions. Below the level of the desert so I don't attract every curious yahoo for miles, but high enough someone walking would get the hint. Prolly wouldn't help with a drunk idiot on a vehicle, but that's what 12g deer slugs are for.

Replacing your front and rear park lights with LED (superbrightleds.com) will provide good corner markers while not being too bright (they are nowhere near as bright as incandescent) and VERY low draw on the battery. You can leave those on all night and not kill your battery.

Unless you are planning something else a little more "covert"...

I had thought about the Front and Rear corner markers, while i will eventually change them to the LED's from superbright, they are a bit more visible than what i want for parking which is why i'm going with the low vis black out lights.

Yup Zombies are out there, so be prepared.:flipoff2:
