Hi there been lurking here for quite a whlie but never posted. Lots of great info here... Anyways a little background info...

I had my BJ74 for almost few years now and never had any big time problems that I couldn't fix.

Recently when starting my truck the Volt meter gauge fluctuates. (not all the time) When it does it is usually after sitting for a while ie over night. It starts fine... then the needle slowlly sinks out of the "normal" range then eventully comes back to within the normal range. When this happens the lights get brighter and everything becomes "hunky-dory" again. Is this a problem? Nothing jhas happened yet... but I need this vehicle to run, without surprises.

Many Thanks

Sounds kinda like a bad connection, check your battery connections and grounds.

Maybe also have your battery(s) tested?

brushes in the alternator

Is this possible... its only got 128,000km but anyway do you think the 24V alternator brushes (and other components) are the compatible with the 12v?

I'm going to check my batteries and conections in the next couple of days... Is there a specific procedure for checking twin battery systems, specifically is there a way to tell weather one battery is more discharged then another ( volts accross each battery???).
