oh, i missed the "C" and thought you were talking "F"..
$1000 seems fair enough in comparision to $6500 i have seen paid for a rebuild...

He also sells complete rebuilt trannys, with a different t-converter, incuding the valve body. I bet "that" would be nice...

Hey Greg
I am curious about the shuddering problem. I have the same problem with my stock valve body. If that valve body does the trick then I'm in. That aside the shift points in Petra's truck were much crisper then my stocker.

Thanks again Petra for the test drive.

I'll post er up when we know...

i was told the shudering was the lock up gone in the torque converter. did you replace the torque convertor?

This is a silly question, but you can not bump start with an A440F automatic, a friend told me on a some automatic trannys you could???

Would be good if you could ah?

i don't think "owning" a land cruiser is a mandate to participate on this forum, i think the requirement would be to like imported cruisers...

I have a A440F with 340,000 miles on it, it never been touched, other has 243,000......never been touched.........good overbuilt tranies IMOP

we went through a few in one year so i started to find out why, it turned out to be overheating...
very expensive to have rebuilt here...

Nope, no new t-converter. It did not do it for the week or so that it was test driven around Vancouver, and it did not do it for us for the little bit we drive it before the new valve body went in. Even so It is/was a concern, and that is what makes Rodneys response so great in my mind...Send a replacement, revalve slighty, no cost...and see what happens.

My BJ74 has an automatic, It works great. I have a external oil cooler. I took the truck and my tent trailer + my wife and all her junk down to sandiego and back. The truck was loaded to almost 7200lbs with trailer, and didnt miss a beat. Going up mount hood in oregon and the hills out side LA the transmission stayed nice and cool. 8500 km in 16 days plus four 13 hour driving days all the truck asked for was diesel fuel. Coolant and oil levels didnt drop!!!!

do you have a temp gauge on the tranny? where did you mount it?
sounds like the truck performed as it should, without a problem...

Hello TLC folk...

What brand and product number tranny cooler did you use and are you happy with it?

Thanks

GB

Ya the truck was great!!! I dont have a guage yet, I kept a close eye on the trans temp lite on the centre console. The ATF never lost colour or its smell.
Its too bad that the truck is so slow going up mount hood I was in 2nd gear doing 55 km/h and I was pass by a tow truck with a GMC truck on the back lol, Im planning some modification OR importing a 81 series for more power.
I installed a tru cooler availble @ most tranny shops. I bought mine a berts automotive for $80. It has an internal thermostat that only opens when the fluid gets hot.

the tranny temp idiot light comes on after tha damage is done. i would usggest getting rid of the thermoste in the cooler and installing a temp gauge in the cooler if you are going to drag loads like that... that is working the rig good and hard...
