Hi All:

The informal Land Cruiser club/4wd club I am involved with did a trail run this last weekend. While getting near the trail head we ran into two BJ70s!

After chatting with these guys awhile we invited them to accompany our group on the trail. Here are some photos of the BJ70s in action.

Regards,

Alan

Cool!

Judging from the ugly roof and blinded rear windows on one of them, those are former Dutch Cruisers.
I wonder how those got over there?

Hi All:

Indeed, the BJ70 with the custom roof and rear window is a "gray market" European import, while the other rig is a Canadian-spec unit (mid-1980s era.)

All I can say is that several of us ("Bull" especially!) were drooling over these rigs! :D

Regards,

Alan

Yeah, the one with the goofy roof is probably not CDN, but the other likely is. One give away would be the roof, but the other is the positioning of the marker lights on the fender. They are too far back. And the missors are not standard. Ummm, I see the Canadian one has different mirrors, too. Oh, and the turbo sticker on the door. But... all those things could be changed if ya wanted to do it. You know, just to mess with us (not very) know it all's...

Correct me if I am wrong, but the engine on the (Dutch) import is likely the 2.5 litre four banger? I think they had those mostly on the little 70's over there.

And the colors are good. Why are all the Canuck 70's painted black? Give me the silver, or the blue. Hell, even the metallic brown color. The black always looks so, well, I don't know. I guess somebody probably likes 'em.

Anyway, they do look cool.

Wouldn't that make them LJ70s then? I was under the assumption that the LJs had the marker lights recessed into the grill.

Kind of like this one.

Well, that may just be. Start brain before engaging mouth, I guess...

The turbo sticker on the door looks pretty factory and I can't see someone trying to make people think that's what it is. Maybe a 13BT then?

Regartless, they are nice looking units. For some reason, I sure do like the short wheel base.
