Hey Forum,
I've been searching through the archives trying to figure out why my Glowplugs only get the initial superglow for about 1/10 of a second. The Pre-heat light only flashes. This problem has been happening for about a month on 9 of 10 starts. 87 BJ70, CDM, 24V.
The regular afterglow works (about 12 V to plugs) and the superglow relays clicks and provides 24V when I jump it from the batteries. I've got continiuity from the timer to the relays. I've opened up the timer and none of the gadgets in there seem to be crispy (although I don't see why it needs to be such a complicated device).
I'm thinking it must be a loose wire on the current sensor that my shop manual wiring diagram shows. So my question is....where would I find this current sensor and does anyone know how to troubleshoot it?
Cheers
Darryl
P.S. - yes I've read all the info on the Wilson switch and will gladly wire it up pending the outcome of this troubleshooting. I may even try and sort out another type automatic timer with an over-ride button for especially cold days or electrical gremlins. Does anyone in Ontario have an old broken Timer that I could dis-assemble, create a schematic and rebuild?
