I am a newbe and am trying to understand the difference between LJ BJ series Land Crusiers.

Are they all pretty similar technically? or is there a vast difference? are the parts interchangable?

I am looking for following parts for my LJ71 and would appreciate if you guys can direct me to the right US based websites.

Safari Snorkel
Suspension ARB or even Rancho
Sports clutch or simply a better high quality durable clutch

Regards
Sajid

Hi Sajid!

Take a look on this pic:

http://www.brian894x4.com/Toymodelcode.gif

It explains the model code.

Engine and transmission:

landcruiserenginestransmissions

Unfortunately your engine (2L-T) is not listed.

Cheers

Michael

Hi Michael

The chart helps but stil does not explain what is the difference between and LJ and say an FZJ.

Here is a picture of my VIN, does it make any sense?

rodcarolino is stating it best. It can be further broken down as follows: The first letter designates the engine family as per rodcarolino. The second letter designates a Toyota "Jeep" ie: LandCruiser. The following 2 or now 3 numbers indicate the body series and style and occasionally also the presence of a turbocharger. In your case you have an "L" series engine in a "J" Toyota "Jeep", a 70 series body style, the "1" indicating the presence of a turbo and the fact that it is the short wheelbase version.

Sajid,

generally, there is one big difference between your LJ71 and a FZJ7x.
The LJ71 is the "light duty" version of the heavy duty Toyota Landcruiser FZJ7x or HZJ7x.

You´ll never find a F/HZJ7x without a leaf sprung rear end.
The frame is more stable, they have bigger axles/differentials, and they have bigger engines.

Got it (-:

Guys thanks for the explanation. Does this mean that the shocks and springs between BJ, FZ and an LJ are not compatible if they all have coil springs in front and rear?

I really need to order an entire OME suspension but thus far have not been able to get the part numbers from anyone or any where for that matter.

Anyone out there who can help me?

Also need to find out where I can buy one of them performance/ sports clutch? and again will need part #s..

Regards
Sajid

IF they had the same springs, which they DO NOT, they would likely be compatible. The FJ and BJ are the same as I assume the LJ and RJ are also. BJ and FJ being the heavier duty leaf sprung trucks and the RJ and LJ the lighter duty coil sprung trucks.

The RJ is the gas version of the light duty LandCruiser and uses the "R" series engine (20R, 22R etc.).

For the suspension part number, I would go to the source and try contacting arb.com.au

Contact ARB Australia

i am in touch with arb usa and they have been very helpful thus far. the last thing that they want to know is if both the rear shocks are indentical. I am pretty sure they are but need confirmation to the fact.
So are they identical?
