New to the site and to landcruisers. Purchased a JDM 1988 BJ71 earlier this year and since then I have been on the look out to find others. I have yet to see one. I have come across several BJ74's and am wondering why I don't see the BJ71's. Is their something I don't know? Is their a reason people aren't bringing them into Canada? Are they hard to find everywhere? I hope I made a good purchase.

I dont think they were ever made in big numbers. Most new buyers would have spent a little more and got the MWB 73/74.
They were sold in oz new but they are uncommon. There was a very rusty version for sale in my locality some time back.
I looked at the motor but he wanted too much for it

Excuse my ignorance but what are the MWB 73/74 you refer to?

Medium wheel base BJ73/74

I like the BJ71.. light, manoeverable, and a real roof.

One of the things I liked about it is the roof. When I bought it I was also considering the BJ74 at the same time but this one was rust free, even though it had a few more kilometers.

Robin you are lucky to have some guys in your area..
I feel like a loner..
Out here..

once they start rusting the real roof is no longer an advantage, trust me ;)

ditto .. coz I know about real rust in roof .. :frown:

Hi Guys!

Well, if you feel like importing one BJ71, i know of one in Turin. Original winch and lockers :D

the only reason i have not imported one is that there is nothing woth importing that i have seen to date. most are higher km and in rougher shape than what i will accept for my customers...
they are very rare in Japan

Its kind of strange how the optioned up models in all types of vehicles seem to get the most abuse

My BJ71 is actualy in great condition, it has a virtualy rust free body and frame, the interior is clean and intact with all gauges ect. working and the engine had 125 000km on it when I got it. It's now at 140 000km and has been trouble free. When I can figure out how to resize my pictures to make them smaller I will post some here.

anything over 100,000 i don't even look at, no offence to your rig was intended in any shape or form...

Hey no offence was taken at all, their was no tone in my response. I just wanted to say that I think mine is one of the few that are in good condition. But the kilometeres are a little higher then I would have liked. These pics should speak for themselves.

I don't know about the BJ74, I seen it and posed for the pic, I wanted to find out more about it but couldn't bring myself to go and interupt someone's meal.

Your rig looks pretty good. There's just something about the short wheelbase units that really appeals to me.

Anyway, did you pick that up in the Red Deer area?
