I went to check my front pumpkin for oil level last week and found birf soup.

As the title says, I have a '75 FJ55 with a Classic Cruisers disk brake conversion.

I see that most suppliers list a different kit for '75 and earlier drum brake axles and '76 and later disk brake axles.

My instinct is to order the earlier kit, but figured I would check with the IH8Mud brain trust to be sure I'm doing the right thing.

Is that disc conversion using OEM stuff or some aftermarket stuff?

I'm not familiar with the Classic Cruisers disc swap.

I would guess that if it an OEM conversion you would be able to use the later rebuild kit.

A quick phone call to @cruiseroutfit may be the best option.

I think it depends on whether you have coarse or fine spline Birfields. You can easily check by pulling a lockout and looking at the end of the birf.

I’ve done about 10 front axle rebuilds (absolutely not an expert) and I always replace wheel bearings while I’m in there. For me it’s always been a why the heck not situation. HTH
