I just registered today (actually early bday present from my wife) for the Sept 22 & 23 Tillamook, Oregon event, it would be fun to have at least one other TLCA SSC member there too, any takers? As of this evening there was space for three more vehicles.

General description of On the Road...
These 2-day training events are geared toward beginner to moderate skill levels,
but experienced skill levels will also learn more than they thought possible as
well as increase awareness. Emphasis is on safety. Courses include vehicle
preparation, negotiating the terrain, picking a proper line, map and compass,
recovery techniques using Hi-Lift jack, winch, and other tools, vehicle
preparation and back country awareness. Included is both theory and
hands-on driving techniques. Many handouts are included.

:bounce: Anyone? :bounce2:

Don't have the time or money right now but would love to some day. I was thinking of getting his video and watching it at one of the meetings. He really emphasises safety in all aspects of four wheeling.

For those that don't get the 4WD Toyota Owners mag, he has a column there too. Good stuff. Get hold of David Z here and subscribe.

I'll ask the wife, but we are a bit tight on money now, saving up for the second kid who should be here in July.

Wow, my wife might be interested! What else do you get for the $500? I didn't see it on the web site. Do they provide food and a place to stay?

Do they provide food and a place to stay?

Negative, you are on your own in that regards. I'll find out from my wife where we are staying.

My wife will actually be riding shotgun off-road for only the second time in her life at this event, so the two of them could keep each other company...

Man, my wife was kinda into it until she saw the price. This will be 2 months after the new baby is supposed to be here and I don't know if she is really up for it... :frown: I'll keep working on it, maybe I can have the weekend to my self, I can just sleep in the back of the FJ right? Prove everybody wrong, you can sleep in the back, it will probably be really uncomfortable with the jack and stuff back there, but hay, I could make it work...

Bill Burke is seriously one of the most incredible off-road trainers on the planet. You will learn more from him in a weekend than in a year on your own. I am not joking--well worth the $$$.

Cheers,

Dave

Wow what an experience...

On the CB..."An FJ Cruiser just flopped on it side" wtf? on this trail? Yup sure enough guy turned uphill when he should have turned down... He did come back for more the next day even though most of us were betting he was done.
