land of enchantment, at least for now
Well, we finally decided to move. We got a contract on a house in Santa Fe, so I'm losing my space. Fortunately it has a nice two-car garage and room in the driveway for 3 more (as well as a gate to the backyard, but hopefully I don't go there) so half my fleet has to go. We're keeping both my 45s, a 55, and Ashleigh's 40 for now (and her Subaru). What goes is the other 55, fj-60 sans motor, my 2wd Taco, 1997 Suburban 2500, 18' flatbed, and lots of Cruiser parts. Most smaller parts are free, axles and rigs aren't, but are cheap. I'll come back to this with more detail later, but let me know if you are looking for something and I'll see if I have it. The only body parts I have are an fj60 lift gate and rear bumper.

David

Edit: Larger parts include: 1965 LC rear axle, complete except wheel cylinders, FREE
1985 fj60 4speed with spacer, no t-case, FREE
3-speed t-case housing, no gears, FREE
FJ60 rear lift gate with glass, FREE
1975 Wagoneer Dana 44 front axle, missing hub, rotor, calipers, I think. $50 obo
small parts including some emissions parts; f-motor distributor; 1974 F-motor rebuilt 1996, never driven, needs work; hubcaps; dash-shift t-case linkage; fj60 rear view mirror; starters, alternators, driveshafts, manifolds, etc.

a little update:
gear reduction starter, works.
3 speed and 4 speed driveshafts, front and rear, some end yokes for 3speed and fj60 shafts, mini truck rear shaft
1 bbl intake/exhaust manifold from '65
intake/exhaust from fj60, not sure what year, egr port is welded shut
entake/exhaust from 76 (I think) 2F
egr valve and cooler from 85 (I think) FJ-60, unknown condition
2 or 3 alternators, all externally regulated I think
2 or 3 regulators, unknown condition
'73 F carb, '74 F carb probably only good for parts
85 2f carb, no jets, valve cover, air cleaner assembly
holley 2 bbl carb
early (F) air cleaner assy

fj60 parts for brown interior: armrests, headrests, console lid, some seatbelts
fj60 vent controls, taillight housings (no lenses), front and rear washer fluid bottles/bags, inside rear view mirror
1983 FJ60 frame with title and VIN plates

No shipping, but most of it is free if you want it.

Doesn't Gorman have a large collection? What's a couple more cruisers? So now only Larry, Greg and I will be the remaining 60 owners.

When are you moving and how long do I have to get myself to Espanola to pick through your collection of miscellaneous parts? I'll wait for an inventory to see if you've got anything I need.

We close May 31, but I want stuff gone asap. Larry wants my pto winch, but i haven't talked him into the pig to go with it. :)
I haven't considered myself a 60 owner for a long time now. I bought this one in the winter for an engine for my 55. If it makes you feel any better, I'm not an 80 owner either.;p

We have more 60-Series owners, they are just less visible than you and Greg. Jack has one and James has one (white IIRC) though he and Linda have brought their 80 to the last couple of meetings. I have seen a few others that were driven by occasional or prospective members.

The wiring harness on the 80 is simply a PM issue. Re-wrap one small area with new heat tape before the wires melt and there is not problem. There are several of these "just-do-it" things that will decrease the likelihood of a failure. (e.g. PHH replacement and diff breather mod.)

The HG on the 1FZ-FE is a confirmed issue and nobody is immune regardless of the prior maintenance, or lack of, or mileage on the vehicle. The good news is that we have had no reports of the "improved" HG failing that I am aware of. Toyota superseded the part after US production ended in '97. There have been dozens, maybe hundreds of guys with the new HG.

Replacing the 1FZ-FE HG is a big job. If it was trivial, more of us would do it as a weekend PM. I think Robbie charges ~$1200 for the labor.

Technically, they are 62-series owners - with fuel injection and I'm guessing an overdrive in their automatic transmissions. I would imagine they have similar power characteristics to a 60 since their motors are destroked 2Fs. tlc4X4.com states HP bumped from 135 to 155. It would be intersting to feel the difference between the 210 ft-lb torque at 1,800 RPM of a 60 compared to the 220 ft-lbs at 3,000 RPM of a 62. Has anyone owned or driven both and what are your thoughts?

BigO has one but he's just an honorary HDC member now that he's living thousands of miles away. How many current FZJ80 owners are ex-60 owners?

I know Oneill had one until a drunk plowed into him. Fish used to have a 60 before I was in the club and I seem to recall his was modified in a similar manner to Greg's. I did meet a guy on the Gordy's Hill run with the FJ Trail Team who I don't think I've seen at a meeting and can't remember his name. He had a white or gray one with a lift.

Are you thinking of Richard Haggerty? He brought his son and a couple of his friends on that trip. They camped with us up at Langolier Labs. Richard bought an FJ Cruiser a couple of weeks after driving one with the FJC Trail Team that weekend. Last time I talked with him, he told me he LOVES it.

We have something similar with the FJ80 and the FZJ80. In the US market, the FJ80 has a different engine, transmission, and Xfer case, (and a LOT of other things) but we consider them as 80-Series just like the later years. We also consider the non-US diseasel versions as 80-series. I guess I just don't see the need for differentiation between the FJ60 and the FJ62.

I have the early split bench, no buckets. You're welcome to it if you want.

What else you got? I might take the seat if Rory says no thanks. Darn it on the winch.

How much do you want for the trailer? It wouldn't be for me but I know someone who might want it.

Yep. That's the guy. I remember him telling me how he'd already put his deposit down and was just waiting for the next one to show up.

And it's Langmuir Lab.

... 18' flatbed ...

Topic for discussion...

What if the club bought the flatbed from David? I know there have been several times that someone needed to borrow a flatbed to retrieve a new rig or rescue a broken rig. Others have borrowed or rented trailers for trips like Moab.

We have some available club funds that we have been donating to worthy causes related to our hobby. Maybe this would be a better use for those funds?

Thoughts?

I suppose if I'd ever driven one I might discover just how similar they are and not have the opinion that they are different. But, they don't have to deal with a carburetor or anywhere near as much emissions crap. I think they still have an air pump though. Don't forget power windows and door locks, headrests on the rear seats, 3-point harnesses for the back seat on the later models, a very different dash. Sheet metal, frame and suspension are all the same though.

I like the idea. We would need a volunteer to be the caretaker - storing it, maintaining it and managing the the borrowing of it. Do we want to get into the "legal" issues of it being a "club" trailer? What sort of requirements would we need for people to qualify to use it. I don't think paying your dues would be enough. You would need to prove you know how to safely use it.

parts?

I'm looking for a Flywheel Cover and a "Steering Column Shield" that mounts to the fire wall for the 40.

We got a contract on a house in Santa Fe,

We could create a tiered dues structure based on the cost of living in the city that our members live. This should result in a financial windfall for the club that would easily cover the cost of that trailer. Vince may get a dues reduction though...

Much of the "new" HP the 62 has is eaten up by the slush-box tranny. I've driven one and it certainly didn't feel any "faster" than a 60.

A more interesting question to ask is how many ex-80 owners there are. O'Niell, Gorman and Hemphill all ditched thier 80s because it wasn't thier cup of tea.
