Townsville is a celebrating Victory in the Pacific this weekend ,with a ceremony on Monday the 15th at 11am followed by a tickertape parade to honour all who served here during WW2. This area was a hugh base for thousands of American Soldiers and Air crews during the war. Many old Aussie and American service men and Women were hosted from Brisbane to Townsville on a special version of the Sunlander made up to resemble the troop trains of that period.Over the weekend they will be visiting the areas they served in and inspecting Lavarack Barracks etc. Saturday Afternoon will be a "Living Heroes Parade" transporting many of them in period military vehicles, followed by a sky show and concert.Quite a big weekend for all the vetrans. An interview on tonights news was with an American General in full dress uniform that served here at the time along with some of our old Diggers in their uniforms.Impressive gents to say the least.Special thanks to all who served here in that time of peril. Anyone on the forum have family that served here?
