What trails were you planning on running? The Toyota Trail Team is conducting an event up there this weekend with 3 groups running Gold, Bull and another that I cant remember the name of. I would love to go up there and meet some more of you guys but I'm not sure it will work out with the short notice.

Bummer... too short of notice and, oh yeah, Mothers Day on Sunday. Bad medicine to be gone that day for me. :(

If I were to drive from Ventura to there, would it be easier to head to Victorville and around thro Loser Valley? or thru the valley and Fontucky then up and over?

Hmm tempting - I haven't been out in a long time. Is there a link with more info on the run? Is this integrated with the Trail Team outing?

Thanks for posting it up

The run is not entergrated with the Trail Team, but I don't think that will stop us from visting the Trail Team never the less. They have such great insulated gloves as a give away!!

Paul Thomas is leading the run and his email address is: paul_fj40@yahoo.com

Oh, I am so tempted. . . .it is my birthday after all.

Unfortunately my GF has activities planned all day.

Hopefully next time!

Big Bear Trip Report

Trip Report by Paul Thomas:

Saturday morning we went to the Gold Pan resturaunt,
had breakfast. Nick Vasquez pulled in. We then went to
Gold Mountain, stopped at a couple mines and trail
rode over to the John Bull trail. We went up the Bull
trail. It's not as difficult as before. The top
"tippy" area has been re-done so it's not as much
pucker factor. We then went to explore some other
areas of interest and work our way over to our adopt a
trail. From the top side the trail has a recently
installed gate blocking access and a sign stating the
trail is closed due to the fire. From the top side
there is no evidence of the fire.

We then took a different trail down to the road that
comes in from Fawnskin. As we approached Camp Wittle
we could see the results of the fire. By the time we
got to Hanna Flats campground it was erie! All the
trees are blackened, the ground is scorched, all the
manzanita bushes are like black fingers sticking out
of the ground. At Hanna Flats campground, which is
closed, most of the restrooms show fire damage, there
is no undergrowth. Some of the picnic tables made it!
We proceeded on. Just past Hanna Flats there is
another gate blocking access to that side of the
mountain. From the looks of it, I'm sure our adopt a
trail is burned out. There will be a lot of work
needed to be done to make it a passable trail again. I
am going to find out who our Forest Service contact is
and see if we can make it a summer 2008 So Cal project
to get the trail opened and cleaned up.
