Looking for ppls experiences with this new tire on a 40 series. Seems like a great size similar to the old 33x9.50r15 tall skiinny tire that is no longer available. What brand and size wheel? Photos installed on a 40 series? Thanks!

A few related threads:

7.50r16 is just shy of 32” (depending on manufacturer)

There is a notable difference in size from a 750 and a 33x9.5

The new 33x9.5 in 16” is 255/85r16 (however it’s not new lol) 255’s are 33x10 (depending on manufacturers some smaller width and some wider but all 33-33.2 tall approx)

There is also 8.25r16 that is 34x9 they are rare to find but are a perfect size imho

9.00r16 is 36”x10” approx
11.00r16 is 38”x10” approx

8.5/9/11 are all good for 6” wide rims

Just throwing that out there for those wondering

I don’t understand why BFG won’t make tall skinnies!!!!

Check out the comparison photo. You said just shy of 32. Def a notable diff. Still think the 750 would look nice on a 40.

My Yokohama 255/85-16 on 7” wheels measure 32.5x9 mounted At 32#

same tire 235/85-16 on 6” wide are 31.5”x9

KO3 750-16 on 6” wide are 31x9

all 32# all measured with a level mounted

Great info. Do you recal the specifics on the 6" wheel? Brand etc. Thanks

The 235/85r16 seem like a good size for an FJ40 with an OME 2.5 lift. SO...wheels? The ideal wheel would be 6 x 16, 3.5 BS in steel....does it exist? I can't seem to find one, except for City Racers.

Oem split rims is what I use they are 5.5

Racer has the stocker repop 16” non split

Chevy rims the ol stocker steel from 60’s-70’s with the center widened

Vintiques smoothie rims ... most guys get the 7” wide... but you can get it in 6” as well: Need Steel Rim Replacment help - 16x7

Those r the ones off the top of my head as I make dinner :)

running 37 X 12.5 BFG KM3 on ours...they ride and grip like crazy. Put them on 17 inch custom rims. Balanced out easy!

As others have stated, 255/85r16's are a great tall/skinny tire that is getting more availability.

I'm running Yokohama 255/85r16 on OEM 70 series 6" rims and I'm at 32 5/8" tall. These tires would be perfect on a FJ40 with a 2.5" lift. I am loving these Yokohama's.

235/85r16 BFG KO's on OEM rim, next to 255/85r16 Yokohama G003. You can see how small those BFG 235's were.

No comment on the size. However I have recently installed 33X10.5X15 KM3's Load range C on my 5.5" wide stock steelies with hub caps. I have them down to about ~25 lbs. to flatten out the tread pattern a bit. Rides NICE and is stable. Load range E in my opinion would be like driving with rock hard tires, even at lower pressures. I would recommend staying with load range C tires on lighter vehicles.
