Stop calling it a "FJ."
Hi All:
I'm not gonna argue with anyone that a year 2000 plus MPFI V-8 will provide more power, better fuel mileage, and lower emissions then a 1970s 2F I-6 engine!
But, there is a "cost/benefit" analysis for the average user/owner of the vehicle in question. It will require lots of $$ and hours of labor to swap-in that modern FI V-8 engine; in the least quite a few gallons of regular unleaded gasoline could be purchased! "Cruisers Only" could build you a high-performance 2F which would be a straight drop-in replacement and while it would require Premium gasoline, it otherwise would probably still be less expensive that the FI V-8.
So, like the "Holy Grail" of the diesel engine swap, the long-term fuel mileage increase would still take a long time to off-set the pure $$ and time invested in the conversion!
Not to say that I don't wish to see a 1FZE/H55F combo in my FJ40!
Regards,
Alan
