Now we're talking birfs and I'm confused. Why the heck would I want to try and use 80 knuckles and birfs on a 75 swivel, if that were even possible (which I'm pretty sure is not).

He is not correct about that working. It’s a completely different setup,

Been there done it.
Hate to burst the purist bubble, but birfs work across 75's, 80' and 79's I often get free parts so I experiment.
As for the swivel hubs, I have a set of 79 swivel hubs and will one day see if they fit my HZJ75.
Never said I've done this yet.
The thing is 79's and 80's share the same calipers, bearings, swivel gasket sets to name a few.
By attempting the swap I could streamline some parts, one set of parts across my HZJ75, hdj80 and hdj81 wherever possible.
The other reason is I can walk into a couple of local shops and walk out with Toyota parts.
These parts a normally 79 series parts, yet today I came home with a harmonic balancer, belt pulley, O-rings, big washer and two key way keys for my HD-FT which just happen to be identical to the 79 series 1HZ engine.
Now you know why.

you might want to refrain from posting suggestions that you haven’t actually done them. Mock it up and you will see that the 80/79 and 60/75 knuckles and knuckle balls are completely different.

I said cutting and welding, I meant it. You would need to transfer the entire knuckle assembly, including ball to the older axle housing as well as get custom inner axle shafts made to use the later birfields.
Wrong
Inners work!
I've swapped a few.
Even ran the 5 bolt 79 hub on an 80 as a test.
It works.

We're off on a tangent in think but .... I the sticking point is the knuckle right? No way to use a 79/80 knuckle on 75 axle housing correct?

Cannot comment further until I personally try.
The 79 series would be my choice just because the parts are readily available.
I've heard people say things cannot be done, but I have done some of these things.

Very different sizes so i would not be going too far out on a limb to say no way. That's why others thought you were talking about cutting and welding the end of the axle housing. The 79/80 is considerably larger than the 75/60.

Lots of parts can be swapped but not the knuckles.

I have used HZJ79 rear backing plates and brake shoes on my HZJ75. I get the hub, brakes and hardware for $100.00 per unit.
I personally like the holding power of the old school brake shoes.
This is a fact

I used an early 80 series booster, like 1992.
At that time the 80’s had drums in the rear.
My MC and booster are a matched set.

Next victim arrived.. this is going to be a *heavy* rig when finished. We are installing 00-06 Tundra rotors and calipers up front and a disc/drum 80 series booster and master cylinder.

Power Brake is releasing their Stage 2 X-Line Big Brake Kit for the 75 Series. Should be in the US 1st Qtr 2025. Anyone have any thoughts on that as a solution?
Does require 17'' wheels, but maintains eveything else in the (OEM) system with respect to the Brake Booster and MC, etc.

You don’t *have* to change the master or booster for any setup, it will just effect how the pedal feels and reacts.
So going to larger or more caliper pistons with the same bore master cylinder will result in a softer pedal with more pedal travel.
As for the rotors those aren’t much larger the + 2010 4runner rotors which on my FJ62 (about 6k lbs loaded for trip) are easily locking 37” tires. So I don’t really see the point when there are OEM Toyota parts at way less of a price point.

My guys got started on a set of 00-06 Tundra brakes on this HZJ75 this morning.
We are also putting a new OEM 80 booster and 91-92 FJ80 MC
All parts OEM/Advics

This thing was WAY overdue for front brakes  o_O
