Dude...that was either the most perfectly calculated bit of showmanship or the luckiest example of bravado I've ever seen!

Problem was you put your best 'spotter' in the middle seat!

Very awesome, look forward to the carnage. If you're lucky, you'll have an excuse to trim the rear fenders!

Not sure which! It was the line I wanted and needed. That rock is bigger in real life! And the tall part is under Betsy Ross!! Anyhow, didn't want to admit this, but I only snapped this pic cuz I was already out of the rig with the high-lift!! Ha! Had to put some rocks under that right rear tire which is at full droop. (locker sure woulda been nice, and/or a winch, but I've never actually wheeled with either... Old school like my 75 yr old step dad always taught me!)

You guys are forgetting I was solo-bolo!! Middle guy is the only one who can buckle himself in!!

I go too slow (stepdad doctrine) for complete carnage, not that lucky!

oh: didn't I just pay someone to fix this quarter!? (princess isn't too happy). It should buff right out though!!


So, that was right before I turned around. Large snow bank on right and large dirt/mud ledge on left with large rock at end of it protruding out. Tried left wheels on ledge and right front dropped so low I had flashes of real body damage! Tried right tires up high in snow and Obviously didn't work! Got up to where the rock stuck out and since no one was there to make me do something really stupid, I backed out and turned around!
I had pretty much been carnage free up to that point so I had delusions of getting out dent free. Well, the squeeze rock thought that me going by on way up without saying hello wasn't nice, so on the way down he gave me the nice smooch you see at the front of the left rear quarter!!

(side note: lmao right now cuz I just went back and was looking at pics and me thinks it's hilarious I can still see a reflection of myself taking the pic in that rear quarter!!!! Guess the damage can't be too bad... )

Little bump on left rear that knocked my exhaust off(nothing a lil bailing wire couldn't handle) right before the "showmanship" pic:


Rubbage that only seemed to happen on way back down, both sides are similar, but ds is the worse: (too much to ignore. Cruiser lean is a factor I think, and the SR, so I may have to drill a new spring pin hole in spring pad/perch)(not even sure what it's called on a sua)


A little drive shaft polishing: (guess I should reinstall those skid plates)



And to boot, I did the whole trip with what I think is a bad clutch!!!! I figure I was down about 30% of power due to slippage.
Listen and tell me what you think. It could be something else. my shifters seemed to rock back and forth more than I expected when just wheeling, not me jiggling them. Maybe a bad mount?? Could that cause the sound? Also, it kicked out of 4lo a couple times on big bumps, into the space between 4hi and 4lo. I should explain this sound would kick in on it's own, as the rig would meet some resistance. It is in first gear, 4 low, idling along and/or with a little gas, then as it gets to an upslope or rock or I give it a little throttle, it would make this sound. (if it sounds like a clutch, smelled like a
Clutch, wheeled like a clutch, I'm thinking it might be a bad clutch....)

True, true!!

There really is no excuse because I have wrap around corners for the rear bumper and sliders just sitting in the garage! Right next to my welder actually!! Ha!!

2 hours east!! But well worth it. Love that place / area!!

OK, just south of Lake Tahoe then.. Very scenic area. The battle scars were worth the trip and memories with the kiddos.

I really wasn't trying to show off.. That really was the line I meant to take. My right wheels tracked over it and the scars are on the left It was super clean except for the fact my right rear tire came off the ground as my frame rested on the rock. So up a couple inches, a couple rocks under the wheel and on we rolled... (just relied at the pic and you can clearly see the rocks that "should" have been there for me in the first place!! The rocks just before this one actually gave me the most trouble, but no pics of that )

The scars came from two culprits!
1) Rear most scars near lights were from the large dirt ledge/rut that a snow drift forced me into ( had to crawl out my window to assess situation) and ultimately forced my turn around! (up ahead there was a large rock protruding out of said ledge that my rear quarter was already making love to!)

2) on the way back down through the squeeze rock (think ford escape size boulder on one side and 6-7 ft dirt/rock wall with large vertical tree trunk the good Lord placed nearly opposite the huge rock so that you are forced to hug the wall to miss the rock and then make a sharp turn to miss the tree at the last sec, forcing some part of your rigs paint much too close to the rock! Oh, and there is a ledge/step right next to the rock to make things fun!) which I had dubiously cleared, injury free, on the way up. And, as I am clearing it on the way down, my right front tire goes up a 3" or so silly rock I hadn't thought much of, but it was just enough to tip the left rear close enough to give the nice rock a kiss...

It's just that I was solo so I'm in none of the pics and only snapped a few..

yeah sounds like the clutch is going from what I could tell. Has been YEARS since I had to deal with a bad clutch though.

And love the area you were in, Strawberry/Kyburz is an awesome area with tons of trails (at least of mtbing).

You ever mtbiked the lovers leap trail? It caught my eye as a rallied down the road ala baja 1000 to test out my new fox 2.0 shocks...

Bro, we have a lot in common. My first car ever was a 67 Jeepster commando. Parted it out last fall to buy my 60. Had to hold memorial ceremony as the guy drove off with all the body, top and tranny. ... I had bought her when I was 15 and learned pretty much everything I know wrenching in her. SBC, 420, teenager/shade tree version of a body off resto... She got well loved and pretty beat over the years, but made it thru my wife's and my courtship and marriage till we had a house and I tore her all apart again to do it right. Kids and a transfer to LA and back and she still wasn't back together or even close to it...Times and priorities change and a drivable family rig is much better for us. Anyhow, I digress and reminisce...

My wife had a very similar response this go around!

Looks great Finny! Did you by chance notice anything with the front driveshaft as the front axle flexed? Probably not since you have such a good angle on your shackles (LUCKY!!). Iam slowly realizing I need to cut the front spring mounts off and slide em back a little! YEAH they're welded on. What great scenery to wheel in!
