Time for a new (reman) starter. I’ve read this and the 21 pages of the starter replacement thread. I don’t see much of any commentary about the two different starter part numbers for older cruisers.

Anyone know the difference between 28100-50070 and 28100-50100?

Parts diagram online seems to suggest 98-03/2000 is the first and 03/2000-2003ish is the latter part number.

Problem is I’ve got an 03/2000 build date on my LX. Searching by VIN online provides no additional clarity. Appreciate any input before I tear my manifold off.

you may have to compare. even the denso part numbers switch at 03/2000
I would choose the denso part number FROM 3/2000, on amazon and then swap if you're wrong and wait the three days. Or just buy both of them. That works to. Or rebuild yours. The -70-84 OE part number is dirt cheap from mcgeorge. As is the 100-84 and 101-84 part numbers (OE). amazon is more $

Thanks guys. Yeah, they’re crazy cheap. Is anyone clear on an actual difference between them? Seems odd consider a bigger change came later in ‘03. May have to disassemble and find the part# then wait some days for the correct one to arrive.

I'm lining up parts for pulling off the intake to replace gaskets etc., and am considering replacing the starter as a pre-emptive measure:

1) What other starter-associated parts might I want to have on-hand?

2) Is the remanufactured Toyota/Denso part still considered to be high-quality?

Thanks, all. Great thread.

Denso reman is good. Toyota Denso reman is said to be a cut above!

I keep these housing on hand, as 80% will crumble.

McGeorge is having a sale , up to 35 percent off on most stuff. Rebuilt starters are down near $100. I think that's a good deal ??

You can get the starter contact solenoid complete unit from the dealer ($35). Remove your old faulty solenoid unit and install this in, It is very easy.

The only faulty part in the starter is the contacts. Instead of replacing just the contacts, get the solenoid unit brand new from toyota !
