I'm about to install an Autometer Pyrometer in my 80 BJ40 w/ stock 3B, where is the best and easiest place to install the thermocouple? I'd like to just drill and tap the manifold....comments?

I have a stock manifold on my 1981 BJ42 (3B). Looking down on the manifold, there was a flat spot just before the fourth exhaust port. I drilled and tapped right there for my VDO thermocouple probe.

It seems to work very well for me. Others may have better suggestions.

I installed my Autometer probe just under the manifold on the down pipe. Just drill and use the clamp that comes with the kit. Save the other stuff for when you get a turbo.

No need to drill and tap. The clamp works great. The temp will be the same.
