Hey fellow Mudders I have a brake question.

I am using 60 series axel's in my 1969 FJ40 build and most everything except the rotors and pads look pretty corroded. Drums have a big lip on the inner edge and are no longer thick enough to turn. Slave cylinders might still have enough meat to hone..... I guess. Caliper pistons appear to be stuck in place but haven't really trying messing with them yet. Should I try and rebuild this stuff?

Sounds like the 80 series non ABS master is the way to go and custom larger break lines are needed. I have a booster from a 60 but don't want to cut the rib on the fire wall so plan on going unboosted. Also going with the OME 2.5" lift and 33s so longer flexible line's.

Read a bunch of thread's and have an idea of what I should do but would appreciate any input you guys have.

Thanks!

Here is the link to the rest of the build for reference.

I would buy new rotors and drums from Rock Auto, and perhaps reman calipers. Don't go to all this trouble, and then cheap out.

I bolted an '88 4Runner master cylinder directly to the firewall of my '65 FJ45 and ran it (unboosted) with late FJ40 axles. Stopped great, and I could lock the tires. I never missed the power boost, due to the relative sizes of the bore of the MC and the wheel cylinders. It was nice not having a big honkin' booster touching the side of my carburetor, as it surely would have.

My rotors look good but I'll get a new master , slaves, calipers and drums. I also would like to avoid the honkin' booster touching the carb so likely no booster initially.

Thanks for the recommendations guys.
