Easier to find a Tundra or Sequoia alternator at stores. They also have more amperage, 130/150amp. I put a Tundra one in 6yrs ago, just had to use the Sequoia/Tundra connector (Part #90980-11964), if need splices the part #82998-12440.
Just making sure I’m tracking here- you removed the wires from the factory plug on the LC100 wiring harness and replaced the plug with the Tundra 9080-11964 plug?

FWIW, the Napa Denso 150 amp only comes up under the Sequoia, Tundra only comes up with a 100 or 130 amp option. And, there are currently none of the 150 amp available.
I ordered the 130 amp Tundra, and the 9080-11964 plug, probably won’t have it all until next weekend.
The bearings on my stock alternator are getting noisy, but it’s still operating properly. We’ve got a ‘98 with 297k on it.

Unless someone has insight on replacing just the bearings?

Partsouq has just the bearings and they will ship them to your door in ~5 business days.

At 240k my bearings were fine. Brushes needed replacing. Local starter/generator shop did the brushes and bearings for it.

Sorry guys, didn't see the replies to my replacement alternator. I have a '99 LC. Replaced the harness plug with the plug number I gave you in the previous post to connect to the Tundra/Sequoia alternator.

I did this some 5-6 yrs ago and works like a charm.

Like @offthebeatenpath my alternator is working fine, but it's bearings are going bad. Has anyone replaced the bearings? It it DIY-able?

As for a replacement alternator, if I go that route, I believe I'll go with a Denso from Rock Auto. Price is very good and cheaper than the other part store options.

On my thread you'll see my fiasco with a new duralast unit.
I returned that and ordered a reman Denso from rockauto, should get here today.

Also to find out how the alternator wires connect from original 3 pin to 4 pin here's some threads on that.. shout out to the guys that figured this out.

I made this to make it easy for you to integrate the pin harnesses.

Copied for above - Sequoia/Tundra connector (Part #90980-11964), if need splices the part #82998-12440.

PLEASE IGNORE THE WIRE COLORS ON IMAGE - THOSE are for 80 Series. PLEASE SEE BELOW for wire colors for 100 series.

For 1998-2001 wiring colors go to this link to figure it out. 100 Series 98-2001 Wire colors

Wire colors can be either OR could be another combination

S-White, IG-Brown, L-Red (likely 1998-1999)

OR

S-White/Blue, IG-Red/Blue, L-BLACK/Orange (likely 2000-2001)

My ‘98 is colored this way.
I have it fully installed, but I haven’t fired up the engine yet since im also in th middle of the timing belt/water pump job.

I was able to pull two of the three wires out of the old plug, but mangled the 3rd one pretty bad. Thankfully I’d bought a couple of the pigtails, so I just spliced one in.

I have had this high output alternator for +3 years and it hasn't given me any trouble.

Very nice upgrade! And these days theres also a 370amp available. 🤩

Did installation of that 270A require any modification to the wiring?..

I don't know if it required it or not but, I did it because I have a high powered Sound Quality stereo system and I didn't want to worry about it.

P.S. Be careful about the 370amp alternator because from what I remember it didn't put out much juice at low RPMs that our SUVs normally operate at.

This seems like as good a place as any to drop this but I firmly believe having a slow but steady leak of power steering fluid onto my newish alternator (reman toyota from the dealer) caused an premature death. It was only 4ish years old, the previous one lasted like 15 years. I changed the 20 year old power steering pump to solve this. Now on my 3rd alternator, wish I had been in a position to upgrade to higher amperage though.

Yeah unfortunately many have learned this the hard way. Oil kills alternators a slow death.

DC Power makes a great alternator. I ordered the 270 amp version, I was looking for an alternator that was either made in Japan or made stateside so bingo! However, I just got an email from them today saying that they don't have any more parts that they need to make these alternators for the Land Cruiser. They were kind enough to refund my money ... but now I'm left without a HO Alternator. Any other suggestions? Even if it is only 200Amp? I'm considering ordering one of the sealed water cool alternators from Australia if I can't find anything here. I'm tired of replacing this thing every time I go through the mud. I wish Cruiser Outfitters carried them because in my opinion the customer services are on point over there.

Perhaps we can look into being a stocking dealer here in the US.
