Hi all.

2008 at 186,000 miles. belt last replaced at 79,000.

A few weeks ago I had constant squealing of the belt which went away when I poured some water on it.

Took it to Toyota. They said that besides the belt, the tensioner and pulley “needed” to be done too to “guarantee” the noise would go away. They needed to order parts.

Of course since I’ve been waiting the squealing as not happened again for over two weeks.

Appointment is next week. Should I do all three of these things? Might it just have been some dirt? Would you prophylactically replace these at 100,000 miles since belt was last done?

Thanks,

Eric

All 3. Toyota is giving you good advice. It's never just the belt and more likely to be the tensioner.

That is a whole lot of mileage for a belt, not to mention the tensioner and idler if they are original.

Yes do all 3. A lack of current noise doesn’t mean they are all healthy.
