Temporary tailgate on my 74 FJ43. I recently removed the top and welded a metaltech cage together, complete with frame tie in pieces. Metaltech was amazing to deal with. Solid experience.

For all you purists out there, I will eventually fabricate or source a proper tailgate solution but, given time constraints and the fact that I'm very fiscally prudent, I present my work of art. Funny, I've received more thumbs up from this beauty.

It's 3/4" square tube frame, tig welded without wearing long pants (sunburns are fun), license plates are blind riveted to a support structure. Barn door hinges are enroute, at which point I'll transform the tailgate into half doors.

Good times.

Very interesting work for a tailgate.
Let me know if you are able to weld and make the latch I sent you into a working one. It was crudely tacked.

I like it. Good idea putting them on a 45 angle, looks cooler than just straights.
Don’t they have plate scanners in Georgia? Wonder if any of those plates will get picked up and trigger anything.
