I have commited to rebuilding my 89 Pickup Trail Toy and didn't want to miss any Wheeling opportunities so I had been looking for a wheelable beater that I could buy cheap. I found the rolled 2000 4Runner Sport. for $700.00. It runs (at least I think it does), has the factory diff lock and 4.30 gears.

The plans are pretty simple.

Step 1. Try and straighten out that front passenger corner a little bit.
Step 2. I'm gonna hack off the roof and put a simple cage it it in case of a flop. (Hopefully I can hire a friend to do some tube work since he did such an awesome job on his truck)
Step 3. I am just gonna cut back the sheet metal and stuff a set of 35's I already have.
Step 4. Wheel the piss out of it and hope it don't break.

When My 89 trail truck is done I'll probably just part it out.

This kind of deal, Mr. 700.00 drivetrain. Do you search for wrecked, salvage?

Jus type in "toyota" in the search field. Columbia, MO though.

Also, the guy selling the LX450 just emailed me and he'd take $3700.

Craigslist.

How about this deal. 97 LX450 for $4000

'97 Lexus LX 450 $4000 or BEST OFFER!!!

Interesting history - the owner is a Lexus mechanic at Plaza. His history is copied below, but the short story is he pulled the engine and replaced the HG and other basic stuff after he bought it from a customer who owned it when the HG blew.

The front seals have not been serviced. The passenger side joint is juicy but I have topped off the grease. The passenger joint is dry(minus the normal sheen) and the grease is full. The joints are quiet and I have had no problems with them. All the fluids in the truck are full and clean. I bought the truck from the customer when he brought it in with a blown head gasket in February 2007. I pulled the engine out since the engine was leaking from every seal. JCM machine shop ( a local, reputable shop I use for all my cars) reconditioned the head and cleaned the block for me. I put in OE rings, main and rod bearings in the block. I used an OE master gasket set. I resealed the leaking power steering pump. I put in an OE pre cat O2 sensor. I got an OE vent hose, OE heater hoses (all of them) and OE heater control valve. I replaced the radiator and cap, both OE. Replaced all spark plugs, fuel and air filter, all OE. The wires, cap and rotor were replaced in 2001 at 120k at our dealer so I opted to leave them alone. I replaced the front and rear brake pads, OE. But now with 15k on them they will probably need to be replaced again soon. Everything works properly on truck except the multi cd player in the console and the antenna intermittently won't lower( it has a new mast, probably motor?) I opted not to fork out $300 for a rebuilt cd player. My wife uses an iPod with and FM transmitter. One of the jump seats is missing. The last owner hit a stump or something and bent in the LF corner of the bumper, but it did not bend it enough to hit the receiver/drier. The lower tailgate has a saucer sized dent in it on the right side but does not affect the function of the door, it is purely cosmetic, the paint is still good (dent wizard can fix). The front bumper will need to be replaced to fix properly. You could bent it out but the paint on the bottom won't look very good. It has minor door ding and rash here and there, It has never been in a major accident to my knowledge, all vins match and everything looks OE. Tires have 10k on them, they are Michelin LTX. Automatic A/C blows cold. Oh yeah, I put on an OE fan clutch. That's all that I can remember now. Hope this helps.

So the thing about the owner moving to Hawaii is B.S?

Are you referring to the owner of the rust bucket 40 in the CWE? I actually never heard anything else from him. I'm not sure if he unloaded his 40 or not. He was really nice, just a few to many indulgences in the late 60's.

No the 97 Lexus LX450 ad said they were moving to Hawaii on the 29th and William found all that info about the guy being a Lexus Mechanic at Plaza. Just wondering if he was making stuff up to try to make a quick sale.

Well, he never said he wasn't moving to Hawaii. In fact, he DID say there was only a short window if I wanted to come look at it.

All I know is what he sent me above.

Just what you need! ANOTHER project!

[pulls out extra large bucket 'o popcorn with extra butter]

I made a bit of progress today. It starts and runs great. The ignitor had come unplugged in the impact and was burried under the smashed stuff. Once I bent the metal out of the way and plugged it back in it fired right up. There is a broke blade on the clutch fan though so I will need to get it replaced. Other than that the radiator doesn't leak or anything. Someone at sometime had removed the TPS sensor andit was missing. The truck seemed to idle ok without it but I will get one from a core engine I already have.

The 275/70/16 BFG All Terrains were nearly new so I re-beaded them and mounted them to my 99 4Runner daily driver so I fugure the truck has nearly already paid for itself since I needed new tires anyway.
