I bought an odyssey pc2150 and I bought the version with center posts, I need to extend my battery terminals and I wanted some opinions. I have a 2AWG 105C wire from a winch install that I was going to use to extend from the + to the starter cable but is that enough? it feels multistrand and its about 14 inches long. I think the starter cable is a 1 or a 0/1.

Im flipping it backwards so the posts clear the hood (not much clearance). Thoughts?

I've had others advise me that stock is 2 awg for the starter and engine block ground.

On flipping the battery, I don't like the idea of running your frame ground connection underneath the positive cables. You're asking for a short. I don't think the stock ground cable will reach the frame in a fliipped orientation.

Someone has shorted out running their battery backwards:

The frame is ground. With the battery flipped, you are now running your positive terminal dangerously close to ground.

I suggest getting the battery terminals properly oriented as jksinton noted, then do what I noted in the link above to handle the cables.

It should clear fine with the terminals oriented correctly. Here’s a few different ways I’ve had mine set up. 31R PC-2150S. The extension connector on the positive terminal is available from NAPA for around $6. @LandCruiserPhil also sells an extension kit.

I've been thinking about this too.

My cables have been stressed to the point that when I last serviced the battery I noticed the heat shrink was coming apart. The only solution I could think of was rebuilding the cables with some type of west marine power distribution options.

Jeez I have soooo many ideas on how to do this better. Thanks for the inspiration to go thru with it. 🤔

Like, simply getting the correct battery? :hillbilly:

What are the specs on that battery? Did I read correctly that it has 100Ah reserve? That's really good but also probably really really heavy.

Roughly 25 lbs heavier than a group 27. Lighter than having dual batteries. It’s overkill unless you’re using it as an alternative to dual batteries. My 80 would be super fast with a lighter battery.

I really like the dual terminals on that. I could attach my noco charger leads to it without having to mess with the battery cables.

I’m doing my 3rd set into my Tundra, have 2 sets in the dual batteries of my boat.

If you dig around the site, they have insulation covers for the fullsize units (what’s in my boat) - lets you isolate what’s ‘hot’ too, and super organized.

HTH.

Great solution. I was thinking of doing similar on my 80 with some old brass electrical terminal bar I scrounged from work. Might bump this up the project list.

Did you do it yet?

:hmm:
