That's Bahia de los Angeles. 5.0, 5.8, 5.9, 6.9! Those are significant quakes. All four within an hour of each other.

It's coming up on the full moon. Half the energy expended during major quakes is within 3 days of the full moon. Big tides...

I love Baja Nomad. Fox News interviewed Paulina, one of the regulars. Here is her take on the situation ... I've italicized what I consider the important parts.

That was me, after talking on the news I am applying for novela status down here. Dern and I were hanging out at Casa Diaz when Fox news called. Chubasco handed me the phone saying that they wanted to talk to an americano.

Earlier in the morning we were hanging out at our place when the quakes started to hit. They didn´t feel like all that, maybe a 3 or 4. Our place rocked pretty good, it moved our truck, but it wasn´t a biggie. From what we gather it was centered right off la guarda island, 6-9 ish on the Rictor scale.

The Delgado came on the radio to inform the town of the shaker and to caution people from being on the coast.

We talked to Ruthie out at Rincon as it was going on. We could hear the quakes coming as we spoke, but they weren´t enough to cause great alarm. Larry, your place is fine as well as all the other places on that strip.

We drove into town for an ice run as the dorado are in and that is when Fox news found us at Casa Diaz. They called Chubasco, he handed the phone to me. From that point on it was live talk from the store back and forth. i didn´t have death and destruction to report so the interview was short. (it´s been a wierd trip, more of that to come when i find a decent internet provider)

my theory is that because we are on the epicenter, the quake wasn´t so severe, kind of like the wake off of a boat. it must have got stronger as it headed n other directions.

As I told the reporter on the phone, life is good in Bahia de los angeles.
It´s hot here. Fishing is good.
I will be signing autographs in punta banda on aug. 11th.

Followed by Viabaja:

We can all breathe a sigh of relief now and go back to our cold cervezas!!!

Then Paulina:

As i was talking on the phone to fox news, one local did come in to buy supplies. he heard the report come over the radio from the delgato and was on his way to agua amarga to be ahead of the tsunami. He was going to miss out on the batch of cevcechi that was being prepared at the same time as we watched him drive off to higher ground-

Ahhh, yes ... fishing, dorado, ceviche, cerveza. The good life. March is sooo far away.

I don't think I would consider living down there until they quit decapitating people.
