Well its not so surprising thing in our city but never expected happening to me :( was dark, parked outside the apartment and went out to put her in a garage,.Getting in the car, looked right fine, looked left, wait, somethings missing... ooh the LEFT MIRROR has gone!!:mad:
not the whole thing but just the mirror panel....

is there anyway to prevent it from stealing it easily?

Are you sure the mirror glass didn't just didn't drop off and go MIA somewhere along the road before you parked it last?

I agree. Silicon adhesive and a new screw through the bottom hole if the original screw has fallen out on the other side.

Welcome to Mud BTW, Nice 80!

im sure it didnt just drop off, i placed it few days ago and it wasnt that loose to dropping off even if the screw has gone. Someone consiously took it. well, im gonna have to think about anti theif protection on mirrors.

Definitely not high on the stolen list in NY- there are none of these trucks- see about 1 a month. Even the parking attendent at Newark Airport park and fly said "Damn i ain't seen 1 of these in a loooonggg time!"
and its the newest cruiser i've ever owned

I can see hand held mirrors not being an easy item to get in Mongolia so could understand it. With that said, my passenger side occasionally falls out and hangs by the cord if the door gets slammed. Already did the silicon and new screw to the drivers side so no wiggle there.

land80, sorry about your misfortune. Not sure what to recommend on securing the mirrors. I keep thinking of the old money bags that had a lock at the top. Not sure how tough the fabric is though.

4runner and Toy van mirrors from the same era fit too. What are you doing out there?? Ned

I just completely replaced my DS mirror. You can have the glass out of it if you want. I was going to offer both mirrors and housings to anyone who wanted them on Mud anyway. Just haven't gotten to the PS yet.

are you sure? can you send me the both glasses? (in case it will be stolen again) that would be huge help.
btw ill pay the shipping if you are going to send me those:bounce:.

today i checked the stolen mirror housing: screw is still there, which means the mofo ripped off the glass panel out of it. toyota should have made it more complicated though well, im thinking of write my plate number on the mirror glass so that they cant sell it for bottle of vodka :)

Sorry about your loss. Here in Kenya we know it all too well about stolen mirrors, hub caps, window visors, side indicator lights, spare tires, actual tires, toyota emblem markings on the car. In fact here mirrors, window visors, and hub caps will actually get pried off and nicked whilst your sitting in the car in traffic. Very sad! Anyways we have come up with various protection measures -
Firstly get your plate number etched on all markings - sand blasting works best
Then secure the mirror with a metal strip riveted to the mirror body circulating the glass or have metal stops glued under the mirror so they cant be yanked out -
unfortunately as we have come to learn this is no guarantee -
your best bet would be parking in secure areas and being vigilant I guess-
here even with the above these street thugs are ripping out the whole unit - mirror and housing -
il put up some pictures next week to give you an idea -

you could glue the mirror backing to the motor in the housing, but if you need a new glass you may have a problem getting just the glass out.

almost blew out my coffee all over the screen, but indeed its very sad when you actually experience it..

thnks for the advise but the glue idea will be my last desperate try.

i agree. will cost more than buying it here. i guess im gonna have to buy it back from black market :) if lucky enough, i would find my stolen mirror there
Wait... are you really in Mongolia? Don't know if I trust that if I ship it it'll get to you. A long trip for just a mirror.
