Well after being 80less since Oct, I'm back in the game. :D After the accident I've been looking for a Sage '97. haha good luck right.
I did stumble on a very nice shape '95 (original owner too). The color? The other best color Toyota made LCs in, White of course.

I had a question on interior colors. It has oak interior but the headliner, handles and such are the same grey thats in my '96 with grey interior. What gives? Is this a mistake by Toyota? I guess I don't mind, but I would have thought that oak meant oak throughout. :hmm: Anyone else with a 2 tone interior, BESIDES the annv guys?

Besides the color mismatch, I'm very happy with my new addition. Very clean, original owner, all maintenance records, 135k, locked. The only time its left the pavement was at his vacation house on Cape Cod.

The head gasket has not been done. My '96 had it done around 85k. Any feedback on doing the gasket before the chance that it might someday blow? How many guys out there who have not done the gasket? What kind of miles?

I'll swap all the aftermarket stuff over to the '95 (not much but enough to get by). That still leaves me with either a great parts rig (accident damage strictly body drivers side rear and ARB), a good start on a trail only rig (if $ ever comes my way), or sell for parts to fund the wanted bumpers.

Apparently it is OEM...I stand corrected!

How did you go about totaling the 1st Cruiser? It looks like the rear end swung into a tree.

I totaled the '96 one morning on the way to work. I was accelerating on an onramp as a oppossum ran in front of me from right to left, no problem I thought. Just swung a little to the right and touched the brakes then... Well I went for a ride I was not expecting, the arse end came around and over the cable guard rail I went. Hitting the tree on the way down. I think that keep me sunny side up anyway.

in some 4wds *cough mmm40 cough cough* its best to run over the possum..:p

(I just didnt know the 80 was one till your story...:flipoff2: )

...

Part of the interior as been replaced...either a BIG part or just the headliner. No such beast as gray and oak two-tone interiors.

Thats what I was thinking too, but...

The headliner, handles, speakers, lights, pillar mouldings are all grey. I would think if it was going to be replaced by an owner who's going through all that work, why not use oak.

Thats why I think its factory.

Hmmm... Nope, I've got a '95 80 (emerald) with oak interior (no faux wood) and gray headliner. Actually, from what I understand from CDan, this is common in later years and Toyota no longer produces/sells most of the earlier oak interior bits such as grab handles, dome lights, speaker grills, etc.

Same here, 95, oak interior and gray headliner.

Well I'll be ding-danged. I stand corrected and a little amazed.

Congrats on the addition!

I think you should go the third route and sell me the DS headlight :D

Maybe I'm just heartless, but I agree, squish goes the possum. No swerving for animals that won't cause major damage.

Anyway, the new rig looks great. And at least the damage is localized on the 96, so you can scavenge quite a bit. That's my suggestion.

Sell the wrecked rig to Sleepercreeper (Chad) for his project he is thinking about doing.... He wants to cut off the body after the b/c pillar anyway... Nice new one

If you ever saw Disney's "The Black Hole" you'll get this.
The last picture reminds me of Old B.O.B. and V.I.N.CENT. :)

I get it..............

congrats on the new rig.

wrecking an 80 is a heartwrenching experience.:bang:

Im about to roll over to 140K with no isssues (knock on faux wood) but Im considering going ahead with the HG replacement before I end up with a nightmare.

hmmm.... I might be interested in buying the totaled one....:hmm:

TUBE BUGGY! (That's my plan if'n my 80 ever gets rolled/ totaled).

Is the headliner actually grey or is it the sable color? My '96 has oak interior but sable headliner, pillars, handles etc.

Just a thought

Josh

Yo baldy,

A possum? What the heck is a possum?
That'll teach you to look out for wildlife.

You should drop that 80 of at Dave Crum's new shop for a bit of a makeover. You're a ragtop man, right?
