I have a '67 FJ40. I'd like to upgrade axles - and go to disc brakes.
A friend has offered me Dana 44 front open knuckle and rear complete. 3.54 gears. Comes with brake assembly as well.
What kind of fit am I looking at here?

Wouldn't 44s be a downgrade? If it were a set of 60s I might try to make it work.

Hi all,

You'd find things much easier using later model 40/45/55 Series axles.

1976 - 84 are disc front. The 1969 - 75 front axles can be converted to discs with the later year parts quite easily. All of the rear axles from the 40/45/55 Series are drum brake.

Lots of info here on MUD: do a search for "disc brake conversion."

Good luck,

Alan

I would look for use 76 or newer fj40 axles, they are available if you keep a look out, and it will be a simple bolt in swap. Just remember the gear ratio changes in the late 70's. The pinion flange is different but that is an easy fix, if you get the newer fine spline you can just get an new flange to go from that to your old drive shaft.
